I kid you not, when I state that purchasing the Peugeot Salt and Pepper Mills were two of my best purchases of 2024. I have had numerous other salt and pepper grinders over the years, but none came even close to these beauties. They are made in France, and the ones that I purchased have elegant turned wood bodies. They are precision instruments that allow you to select the coarseness of your grind, and they are very well made and durable. I purchased the 9" version of both, and I am delighted with my choice. They make salt and pepper grinders out of an assortment of materials, and from several types of wood, and there is something for every aesthetic sensibility. Whether you are looking to treat yourself, or someone on your holiday gift list, this is an excellent idea for anyone who enjoys cooking and entertaining.
Peugeot Paris u'Select Manual 9" Salt Mill in Chocolate ($58.00-$68.95 from Williams Sonoma, Crate & Barrel, Sur La Table and Amazon): This beautiful salt mill, in the chocolate finish, has an exceedingly smooth and effective grind, and it is truly a pleasure to use. It is an elegant piece, crafted from beechwood, and built to last. Be sure to only use dry rock salt, not larger than 4mm, and you will have an excellent experience. Sea Salt, and other oiler types will eventually impact the stainless-steel grinding mechanism, and therefore I have always followed Peugeot's suggestion to use dry rock salt.

Like the salt mill, it has a setting at the bottom that allows you to select the desired coarseness of the grind, depending upon your needs.
