Erno Laszlo Light Controlling Lotion is among their iconic products that I began using at the age of 17. Throughout the years, it is among the products that I return to again and again. Originally intended for normal, combination and oily skin types, it is now marketed for all skin types. It does contain alcohol, and therefore if your skin is particularly dry, and you avoid alcohol-based toners, then this probably isn't the best choice for you. However, while it does contain alcohol, I do not find it drying for my normal skin. It is a gentle and effective toner that binds moisture to the skin, because of the glycerin, while it effectively exfoliates dead skin cells without stripping. It leaves skin glowing, balanced and smooth. It does contain a light fragrance, but I find it quite pleasant. Of course for me the scent is a familiar one that evokes many memories, and my visceral reaction to this product goes well beyond its efficacy. I am not suggesting that I am unable to determine whether it is any good, or whether I would enjoy it if I hadn't had such a long and enduring relationship with Laszlo products, but my history with this brand definitely plays a part in my reaction to their products. I will say that using them is like visiting a beloved friend that I have known since childhood, and that familiarity is very comforting. Bottom line, though, it is still a great toner.
According to Erno Laszlo,
This lightweight toner reduces surface oil to refine the texture of the skin and tighten pores, eliminating dullness for fresh-faced results.
Infused with soothing and skin-refining botanicals to help boost renewal. Cosmetic Grade Alcohol works as a mild exfoliator, sweeping away dead skin cells. Natural moisture-magnet Glycerin attracts water and binds it to the skin, helping to restore moisture levels. Skin looks and feels soft, smooth, and youthful.
Directions: Apply after cleansing. Sweep lotion over the face with a cotton ball, avoiding the eye area. Use morning and night as part of your Detoxifying ritual. Formulated for all skin types.
What It's Formulated Without: Phthalates, Parabens, Sulfates, Mineral Oil, Petrolatum, Urea, and Colorants.
Ingredients: Water (Aqua/Eau), Alcohol Denat., Glycerin, Polysorbate 80, Parfum (Fragrance), Amyl Cinnamal, Benzyl Benzoate, Citronellol, Geraniol, Linalool, Evernia Furfuracea (Treemoss) Extract, Limonene.

I think this is one of the products my SIL used. I always noticed a certain fragrance in her bathroom from Laszlo.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be at all surprised if it was. This is one of those iconic Laszlo products that so many of us used! There was definitely a Laszlo smell that I experienced as well!
DeleteIt always good when you have a tried and true brand that you love and can always go back to!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you, Claudia!
DeleteThank you for flagging the alcohol in this wonderful sounding toner. I will find a Laszlo product yet to try soon!
ReplyDeleteYou are so welcome, Allison. This toner definitely isn't for you. My mom has dry skin and when she was using Laszlo she used, and loved, the Phelityl Soap and the Hydraphel Emulsion (an alcohol-free toner) that is actually quite hydrating. If you ever try their products, that is the cleanser and the toner that you would want to use for dry skin.
DeleteI love the history of this brand but their products are a hit or a miss for me. My skin didn't agree with this lotion but I adore their moisturizers!
ReplyDeleteI do too! Their moisturizers are quite good, I completely agree. I realize that they are now marketing Light Controlling Lotion as a product for all skin types, but I really think that it is best suited for normal to oily skin types (as it was intended years ago).
DeleteAny comments on "Regular Controlling Lotion"? If anyone remembers, it is the white/Pink/white Controlling Lotion that you would put over and work into your evening layer of pHelityl Cream? I was thinking, could I make something similar? With a bit of facial clay maybe.
ReplyDeleteI definitely remember Regular Controlling Lotion, and I used it for many years! It is a shame that they discontinued it. I wonder whether or not they have any plans to bring it back. There were certainly lots of requests to bring back Regular Normalizer Shake It, and they did– so maybe they will with this as well! It might be worth emailing them to see if this is something that they are considering.
