If you are seeking a wonderful quality color-safe shampoo and conditioner, that actually enhances color between color treatments, then the John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Visibly Deeper Colour range is worthy of your consideration. They also have like-products for blonde, red and mid-tone brunette hair colors.

John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Colour Deepening Shampoo ($11.99 for 8.3 oz. from Ulta, Target, Walgreens and mass retailers): This shampoo is such a treat for color treated brunettes, particularly between color treatments! It really does infuse the hair with rich, dark tones. I have found that it enhances highlights or lowlights, and it doesn't strip or dry my curly, color treated hair.

According to John Frieda,

John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Visibly Deeper Color Deepening Shampoo. Create deeper, richer, more lustrous color as you cleanse. Formulated with cocoa and evening primrose oil, our Brilliant Brunette Visibly Deeper Color Deepening Shampoo infuses rich, dark tones so you can deepen the spectrum of your brunette color. For use on natural or color-treated hair and for use on highlights & lowlights.

According to John Frieda,

John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Visibly Deeper Color Deepening Conditioner 8. Intensify deep, rich, lustrous tones while you hydrate. Formulated with cocoa and evening primrose oil, our Brilliant Brunette Visibly Deeper Color Deepening Conditioner enhances the dark tones in your brunette spectrum, so you can reveal deeper color. For use on natural or color-treated hair and for use on highlights & lowlights.

Violet 2, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Extract.
John Frieda Luminous Glaze Clear Shine Gloss ($ for 6.5 oz. from Ulta and other mass retailers): This hair treatment feels like a leave-in serum to make hair manageable and frizz-free, but it is actually an in-shower treatment that you rinse instead. It is clear, color-safe and adds a glossy shine to chemically treated, or untreated, hair alike. Hair is left soft, smooth, frizz-free and with a gorgeous glossy shine.

According to John Frieda,

The clear shine formula doesn't contain color, so every hair color shade, whether natural, highlighted or color-treated, can experience clear, dazzling shine every day. The clear shine patented formula is versatile enough to include in your every day morning routine or use as a once-a-week shine surge treatment. Shine results intensify over time, so the more you use it, the more you shine. Ammonia, dye and peroxide free. Will not damage hair. Will not change hair color.

Directions: Shampoo and condition hair, then squeeze excess water out of hair. While still in the shower, smooth Clear Shine Luminous Glaze through wet hair, distributing evenly from root to tip. Leave on for at least three minutes and rinse. Style as usual. Use each time you wash your hair or a minimum of three times a week. Or, as a shine surge treatment, use once a week. Quick Tip: For a once per week shine surge, leave Clear Shine Luminous Glaze on dry, unwashed hair for 20 minutes, then rinse.

Ingredients: Water, Propylene Carbonate, Alcohol Denat., Citric Acid, Cyclopentasiloxane, Xanthan Gum, Dimethiconol, Malic Acid, Tourmaline, Citrine, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein Pg-Propyl Silanetriol, Tea-Cocoyl Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Sodium Hydroxide, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Fragrance, Titanium Dioxide, Mica, Ext. Violet 2.

Overall Assessment: These are staples in my shower.

  1. I use to use the ones for red hair all the time because while my hair is brown I have a red undertone in it (and natural blonde highlights but let's not talk about those) that I like to SOMETIMES bring out to play. I found that the John Frieda for reds was perfect to use around that time and I could just stop using when I got tired of the red and wanted to get more back to the brown. Allowed me to "highlight" the colors with out actually coloring my hair.

  2. I used this shampoo and conditioner before I moved and had a very healthy dent in it but unfortunately it opened in moving and I had to toss it. I don't think I ever tried the glaze though and that sounds intriguing. I should put these on my list when a sale comes along.

    1. It's too bad that it opened up during your move, Marcia! The glaze is really interesting, and I definitely like it. I definitely recommend picking them up when they go on sale!

  4. I can't use color depositing shampoo coz my colorist said she'd kill me, but I am a fan of Frieda 3 Days Straight and some other products

  6. I've been curious to find out if John Frieda is cruelty free and not selling in China. I've heard a lot of great things about their hair products.

    1. From what I have seen online, it sounds as though they are in the gray area. I read that they don't test on animals, but that they can't vouch for their ingredient suppliers. I have seen some claim that they are CF and others say they definitely are not.
