I was recently introduced to Desert Harvest, an aloe vera based skincare brand that I am excited to share with you. In fact, this family-owned business grows their own Aloe Vera for the production of their wonderful products.
According to Desert Harvest,
We grow our Barbadensis Miller species of aloe vera plants organically with no pesticides or chemical fertilizers. Immediately after the leaves are harvested (within two hours), we use a cold process to preserve the active ingredients, applying no heat and adding no preservatives. Heat caramelizes the polysaccharides, so you want to avoid aloe that has been heat treated.
We process the whole leaves of the aloe plant (not just the inner gel), which allows all of the ingredients of the plant to work in synergy. Then we filter out all of the insoluble fiber, so you get more of the active ingredients in a super-concentration. 99.5% of the aloe plant it water and insoluble fiber, so there is only a tiny amount of powder left after processing. It take a 3-foot-across plant a year to make just 180 capsules of our Super-strength, Freeze-dried Aloe Vera.
We remove the anthraquinones (like the aloin and aloe emodin, which cause diarrhea) using a patented process. You cannot take concentrated aloe vera for a long time when it contains these chemicals. All of the negative side effects of aloe vera that you read about in the literature are associated with the anthraquinones. All Desert Harvest products contain NO anthraquinones. We filter out the fiber and freeze-dry the liquid to remove all of the water. We use no artificial ingredients (not even the capsules, which are vegan) and no preservatives (like citric acid) or fillers.
Desert Harvest Aloe-Herbal Shampoo & Shower Gel ($12.00 for 8 oz. from Desert Harvest): I have to confess that I am a bit obsessed with this shampoo and shower gel because it cleans the skin and hair without stripping, but instead is lightly hydrating. It has a wonderful herbal aroma that lingers in the shower, but not on the skin or in the hair.
According to Desert Harvest,
This gentle, 100% natural shampoo/shower gel is rich in aloe vera, herbs, and essential fatty acids, which help remove dulling, yellow residue from your hair to reveal your natural shine. It gently cleanses your hair and skin, leaving it silky clean, soft, and beautiful. Gentle enough for permed or color-treated hair. Safe enough for the most sensitive skin.
Directions: Massage into wet hair or skin, lather, then rinse thoroughly. Repeat if desired. Gentle enough to be used daily.
Ingredients: Organic Aloe Vera, Olive Oil, Organic Coconut Oil, Palm Oil, Organic African Black Soap, Castor Oil, Avocado Oil, Organic Shea Butter, Organic Oils Of Jojoba, Grapeseed, Apricot, And Evening Primrose, Vegetable Glycerin, Silk Protein, Extracts Of Organic Peppermint, Wild-Crafted Yucca, Wild-Crafted Horsetail, Organic Nettle, Organic Melissa, Organic Xanthan Gum (Plant Sourced), Vitamin E, Essential Oils Of Almond And Lime.
