That I have a penchant for high quality makeup brushes probably amounts to a considerable understatement. I have amassed quite a collection over the years, and yet I continue to seek out interesting brushes that are worthy of owning. The Bésame Cosmetics Boudoir Short Hair Contour Brush was one such brush, and it had been sitting in my Sephora shopping cart for a period of time, and while I did purchase it, my choice was validated after hearing my friend, Kath the Fabzilla, extolling its virtues. First of all, it has a clear vintage charm juxtaposed with a modern sensibility that makes this an extraordinary collector's item, and therefore a perfect gift.
About Bésame,
The vision of designer and cosmetic historian Gabriela Hernandez, Bésame recreates modern versions of classic luxury makeup. From color to formulation to packaging, each detail is painstakingly crafted and manufactured in the USA.
Bésame Cosmetics Boudoir Short Hair Contour Brush is a stunning brush that can be used to apply and blend powder and cream formulas, but I purchased it for the express purpose of applying and blending cream and liquid foundations, tinted moisturizers and BB and CC Creams. I wanted an ultra-soft brush with densely packed cruelty-free (synthetic) bristles that could give my makeup an airbrushed, flawless finish, and this brush does precisely that. It has a large brush head (5.25” L X 1” W X 1.25” D) that lends itself to covering large areas, and it glides across the skin effortlessly, deposits foundation efficiently, and blends seamlessly. It is exceedingly soft and feels magical against the skin, but the short bristles remain taut enough so as not to become floppy and inefficient. The serpentine shape of its handle, which was inspired by makeup brushes from the 1930s, is at once glamorous and nostalgic. It also is very comfortable in the hand, and it is easy to use and clean.
According to Bésame,
Bésame brushes are designed to bring back glamour and luxury to the process of creating your look- they make expert application effortless. Designed to buff powder or cream with faux hair, it blends color with ease and glides effortlessly onto the skin. The handle is designed to resemble brushes available to Hollywood makeup artist during the 1930s. It is easy to grasp, comfortable and well balanced in your hand. Wash hair only warm, soapy water as needed. Softest finest man made hair Luxurious boudoir brush for face and body and cruelty free.
Directions: Use this short hair contour brush to effortlessly buff cream makeup or powder onto the skin leaving a seamless contoured complexion. To contour the face, apply your contour shade of choice and buff the cream or powder onto the skin working in a number three motion along the forehead, under the cheekbones, ending under the jawline. Repeat until the contour shade is completely blended. To apply rouge, lightly dip the tips of the bristles into the pan and apply starting at the apple of the cheeks working in circular motions blending up towards the hairline, using the long side of the brush to hug the cheekbone.
Size 5.25” L X 1” W X 1.25” D
Overall Assessment: This is seriously one of the best purchases that I have made this year, and I highly recommend it without reservation. It is worth every last cent, and I may need a second one for use when this one is being washed!$48.00 from Sephora and Dermstore (Affiliate Links).

Wow, that is quite an endorsement, Helen! I have never tried any of the Besame brushes but I must say I am entranced by them. I adore the vintage look of everything from Besame. I mostly use blending sponges and slanted kabuki brushes for foundation application, but some day I need to give a larger brush like this or the Artis type brushes a try.
ReplyDeleteIt is such a divine brush, and definitely on par with my Artis brushes! The vintage appeal also makes using it such a pleasure! I definitely recommend adding this type of brush to your collection!
DeleteWow that's so luxe!
ReplyDeleteIt really is, and it feels amazing against the skin! I think that you would really love it, Courtney!
DeleteI had no idea what this was at first! I want to try it now!
ReplyDeleteIt is the most luxurious feeling brush, and it gives makeup a truly airbrushed finish!
DeleteNow that my Artis 10 ended its life I'm looking for a foundation brush that is soft and luxurious. Your review has me thinking about this. I ordered a Real Techniques brush so if that doesn't pan out then this will be mine.
ReplyDeleteTHat's exactly what I was thinking! The handle on this one definitely won't snap! I think that you should contact Artis to let them know that this happened. I think that they would want to know.
DeleteOh wow it is soooooo unique. I'm extremely glad they are synthetic bristles. I was worried for a moment because they do look like some lush animal fibres but I know that you can actually make even better fibres from synthetics and I'm so happy that's what Besame did.
ReplyDeleteIt really is a unique brush, Kimberly! I agree with you about using the synthetic bristles, and I really wish that more brands would!
DeleteI love Besame! I'm impressed that they are using synthetic bristles since they try to imitate vintage products (which would most likely be animal hair). Yay for cruelty free!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the synthetic bristles, Jen! There is no good reason to be using animal hair!
DeleteI love the design of it! Looks like it would be great for all the curves of your face!
ReplyDeleteI love the design as well! You are quite about the shape being perfect for the curves of the face. This is such an amazing brush, and definitely worth having!
