If you have dry, damaged, curly, fine, fragile or color/chemically treated hair, then you are probably noticing that the cold weather is wreaking further havoc on your tresses. Each winter I notice that my color-treated, curly hair needs added moisture and nourishment, and I tend to switch my shampoo and conditioner to richer formulas to compensate for the added environmental assaults. If you feel the need to do the same, then I would love to introduce you to the NiuCoco Hydrating Shampoo and Smoothing Conditioner that I have been using with great success.

Their Hydrating Shampoo and Smoothing Conditioner are perfectly suited to the needs of color-treated, chemically treated, dry, damaged, coarse, curly, fine, fragile and naturally straight textures. Furthermore, NiuCoco products are sulfate-free, paraben-free, phthalate-free, gluten-free, 100% vegan and they contain no artificial fragrances. They also have a delectable natural coconut aroma, but it is neither cloying, nor long-lasting.
NiuCoco Hydrating Shampoo ($29.00-$34.00 for 8.5 oz. from NiuCoco and Shen Beauty): This is a very rich and creamy hydrating shampoo that deeply nourishes the hair, without leaving it limp or weighed down, and gives hair a glossy finish. It tames frizz, makes hair more manageable and adds a slight amount of volume. It is a real treat for my dry, curly color-treated hair.

According to NiuCoco,

This milky, natural formula is the best shampoo you will ever use. Created with cold pressed coconut oil (a natural source of Vitamin E) it helps produce glossy voluminous hair with movement and shine while enhancing your color. Natural plant extracts nourish and produce moisture, without any sulfates, parabens or synthetics.

Directions: Shake well before using. Dispense desired amount into hand, then apply onto wet hair. Massage into a light lather. Rinse and repeat as needed.

Key Ingredients:
  • Coconut Oil (Cold Pressed, Extra Virgin)
  • Vitamin E
  • Extracts: Watermelon, Orchid, Rosemary, Green Tea
Ingredients: Eau/Water, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Decyl Glucoside, Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate, Fragrance/Parfum*, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Glycerin, Cetostearyl Alcohol, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Citrullus Lanatus (Watermelon) Fruit Extract, Cymidium Grandiflorum Flower Extract, Camellia Sinensis Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Tocopherol, Gluconolactone, Sodium Benzoate, Polysorbate 60, Lactic Acid
NiuCoco Smoothing Conditioner ($33.00-$38.00 for 8.5 oz. from NiuCoco and Shen Beauty): This is a very rich conditioner that nourishes and moisturizes dry hair without weighing it down. It makes hair more manageable, fights frizz, and allows me to effortlessly comb my wet, curly hair without incident. Furthermore, it leaves hair shiny, soft and supple without losing its shape. The coconut aroma is utterly delicious, but it recedes quickly and does not interfere with any fragrances that you may want to wear.

According to NiuCoco,

A velvety-rich weightless conditioner created with cold pressed coconut oil (a natural source of Vitamin E), fortified to nourish thirsty strands while helping to improve manageability and end damage. Enhances softness while creating movement without weighing down the texture.

Directions: After shampooing with NiuCoco Hydrating Shampoo, apply to damp hair. Distribute evenly, concentrating on the ends. Leave on for 2 to 5 minutes, then rinse.

Key Ingredients:
  • Coconut Oil (Cold Pressed, Extra Virgin)
  • Behentrimonium Methosulfate (Sophisticated And Elegant Detangler)
  • Extracts: Watermelon, Orchid, Rosemary, Green Tea

  1. I just started going to to salon again to get my hair colored after using henna for years, and my hair is definitely feeling dryer now. These sound nice!

    1. Oh yes, that transition from henna to regular hair color can be a drying one. I am really pleased by the efficacy of this duo, and anything that can pamper my dry, curly, color treated hair is a winner in my book!
