HOURGLASS Ambient Lighting Edit is described as, "a limited edition wardrobe of powders, blushes, bronzer and the debut of the new Ambient® Strobe Lighting Powder – an illuminating powder to create the perfect highlight. This curated collection of Ambient® Lighting products is designed to give you a flawless, finished complexion with multidimensional color."
Of the 6 powder products in the palette there are three Ambient Lighting Powders, two Ambient Lighting Blushes and one Ambient Lighting Bronzer.
It contains:
Ambient® Lighting Powder in Dim Light: A neutral peach beige powder that blurs imperfections and highlights the complexion.
Ambient® Strobe Lighting Powder in Iridescent Strobe Light (NEW): A rose pearl powder that gives a refined glow to the complexion.
Ambient® Lighting Powder in Diffused Light: A soft, warm, pale yellow powder that conceals redness and gives skin clarity.
Ambient® Lighting Blush in Mood Exposure: A soft plum blush fused with Mood Light to brighten the complexion.
Ambient® Lighting Blush in Luminous Flush: A champagne rose blush fused with Luminous Light to evoke a candlelit glimmer.
Ambient® Lighting Bronzer in Luminous Bronze Light: a medium tan shade fused with Luminous Light for a softer, candlelit warmth.
Aptly described as the "ultimate portable luxury"palette, this limited edition holiday kit features a gorgeous array of iconic HOURGLASS Ambient Lighting Powders to highlight, bronze and blush the skin with ease. Each of the powders is ultra-finely milled with a nearly creamy texture. All six shades glide across the skin effortlessly and deposit color evenly. This exceptional formula neither emphasizes pore size, nor does it settle into, or accentuate, fine lines. I am able to get a full day of wear out of all six powders without fading, but my combination skin isn't oily enough to impact wear-time.
Each of the powders is smaller than those found in the Ambient Lighting Palette and the Ambient Lighting Blush Palette, but it only takes a moment to navigate the more compact space with a brush. You may feel the need to use a more compact blush brush when using the blushes, but I have had success using regular size brushes. I often tend to blend the colors in this palette and in the Ambient Lighting Blush Palette– therefore I like to drag my brush across the entire bottom row of the Ambient Lighting Edit and across the entirely of the Ambient Lighting Blush Palette to create custom colors.
According to HOURGLASS:
Designed to give you everything you need to finish, brighten, contour and highlight your skin in a single compact.
Features the new Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder in Iridescent Strobe Light, a sheer illuminating highlighter, designed to emulate the way in which strobe lights capture and reflect light on the face. Can be used wet for a more intense light.
All products in the palette are universally flattering and deliver a multidimensional luminescence to every skintone, making it appear softer and lit-from-within. Unlike traditional powder, blush and bronzer, which tend to be flat, all Ambient Lighting products use Photoluminescent Technology to filter out harsh light and refine the appearance of the complexion.
Suggested use:
1. Apply Ambient® Lighting Powder in Dim Light or Diffused Light all over face as a finishing powder.
2. Apply Ambient® Strobe Lighting Powder in Iridescent Strobe Light to the high points of the face – tops of cheeks, bridge of nose, brow bone and cupid’s bow. Can be used wet for a more intense highlight.
3. Contour hollows of cheeks and forehead with Ambient® Lighting Bronzer in Luminous Bronze Light.
4. Apply Ambient® Lighting Blush in either Luminous Flush or Mood Exposure to apples of cheeks.

Photoluminescent Technology: "The optically transparent particles alter the appearance of the skin by manipulating and refracting favourable light. The result is skin that looks smooth, even, and enhanced—not masked. The soft-focus technology helps to minimize the look of wrinkles and imperfections, neutralize discolouration, and emulate the appearance of young, healthy skin."

Overall Assessment: Such a gorgeous luxury palette! All of the powders are ultra-finely milled and spread across the skin effortlessly. While it isn't inexpensive, it is so convenient to have highlighters, blushes and a bronzer of this quality in a single, travel-friendly palette. I love this palette!

I tested this at the store last week as it was on my VIB list. Only the middle blush worked for me. Both of the others were way too dark and way too brown. I was hoping to get this for traveling but it's a definite no go for me.
ReplyDeleteWhat a bummer! I actually prefer mixing the colors than wearing them individually– though I do that periodically as well! At least you can save a little money! What is on your list?
DeleteA Radical serum, that Hourglass lipgloss/oil you reviewed, a hairbrush suitable for using dry shampoo, their gift set that consists of travel sizes of dry shampoo and...and...that's all I've come up with so far. Trying to decide if I need any Christmas gifts as well.
DeleteWhat a great selection! You could always do a repeat and get your sister-in-law the TATCHA INDIGO Cream– at 20% Off that's a pretty sizable savings, and will go a long way to keeping you in your VIB status (maybe even bump you into Rouge). I remember you said that it really worked on her skin, and that she would never splurge on herself in this way!
DeleteShe used her entire container! But she didn't seem sufficiently wowed for me to buy it again for her. I need a bit more than that to get to Rouge. Not sure if I should be excited enough to really try for Rouge or what the benefits are actually.
DeleteWow, I'm surprised that she wasn't sufficiently wowed by that amazing cream! Honestly, I don't really see the point in trying to achieve Rouge status because there don't seem to be enough added benefits other than being able to shop the sales earlier. I'm not a ROuge, and have been close many times, but I wasn't willing to just buy things to hit the Rouge threshold.
DeleteLet me just say that I am considerably closer after this sale......
DeleteThe VIB sale definitely has a way of doing that!
DeleteDo you know if this is a once a year sale?
DeleteAs I recall the big VIB/Rouge sale is just in November, but they also have the Friends & Family sale as well!
DeleteOmg this looks gorgeous! Especially the blushes!
ReplyDeletexx, A Little Dose of Makeup
Isn't is stunning?! I am just smitten with this palette! xo
DeleteDon't you just love their blushes/powders?
ReplyDeleteI have both the blush palette and lighting palette, so I did not purchase this combo palette. Though I do want to purchase some of the Hourglass blushes and powders that aren't included in the palettes.
My choices would be (blushes): dim infusion, ethereal glow, radiant magenta, diffused heat
(powders): ethereal light, diffused light, mood light, luminous light
What do you think? What would you go with? I'm really torn...because I like all of them. :)
Hi gracebay! Yes, I completely agree! I am thoroughly obsessed with their blushes and their Ambient Lighting Powders. It is only worth getting this palette if you know that you will use most of the powders, or would mix them to create customized shades.
DeleteI absolutely love your listed choices. I definitely find myself reaching for Ethereal Glow and Radiant Magenta all of the time, but I have a cool-toned complexion– so those two were obvious choices for me. If you have warm-toned skin, or are among the lucky cool-toned people who can actually wear some corals, then Dim Infusion is unmitigated perfection. I wish that I could wear this shade, but alas it is too warm for me. Diffused Heat is such a gorgeous poppy shade, but I would definitely swatch it in person since the reddened shade doesn't work on everyone.
Mood Light is definitely another of my favorites, and one that I find exceedingly flattering. Ethereal Light is such a gorgeous cool sheer translucent shade that really perfects the complexion. Diffused Light is definitely a warmer yellow shade that effectively conceals redness in the skin and creates the illusion of heightened clarity. Mood Light is a light and sheer (but buildable) lavender pink that really brightens the appearance of the complexion. Luminous Light is a bit more pearlescent, and it's a lovely champagne glow.
I would say that which ones to choose would depend on the effects that you seek,
I would suggest getting the ones that you are the most drawn to, and then you can go back and collect the others that may have not been at the very top of your list. If you think that you will regret not getting this new palette, and that you would actually use all of the colors–then it might be worth getting it during the Sephora VIB event. It certainly the perfect time to collect the shades that you really want! I understand just what you mean, it's super hard to narrow down the selection because they are all so wonderful! Keep me posted!
This is just so pretty. I've got a few days to decide if I should buy it on the VIB discount. I don't need it but when did that ever stop me??
ReplyDeleteIt really is, Marcia! If you think that you will regret not getting it, then you should take advantage of the VIB discount and get it while it is still available. If, however, you won't realistically use most of the shades, then I would skip it. "Need" becomes such a relative turn for beauty bloggers, doesn't it?! The things that I talk myself into buying "for the blog" is laughable!
DeleteThose are gorgeous! After seeing your swatches, I think they'd all be too dark on me.
ReplyDeleteAren't they lovely?! They actually sheer out considerable, my swatches were more built up to illustrate the saturation of the colors themselves.
DeleteI have this palette. It's sitting on a shelf, waiting for me to open it. I am delaying, for some silly reason. I do that, sometimes. :D I adore Hourglass powder products and I think I'm going to love this palette. Your photos and review are fantastic, as usual. I see that blush palette and want to reach through my monitor. I am still kicking myself for not getting it while it was available.
ReplyDeleteTake your pictures, woman– you need to play with this lovely palette! I agree with you, I adore their powder products as well! Thank you for your kind words_ I am so happy that you liked my pictures and review! Well, if that blush palette comes around again (with any hope it will eventually become part of the permanent line)- then I would definitely recommend grabbing one! I love that palette!
DeleteThat palette is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteIsn't is amazing?!
DeleteI was tempted to get this as it's super gorgeous and tempting, but already have the blush palette and probably wouldn't use the bronzer. I think Ambient powder palette might be my next Hourglass splurge.
ReplyDeleteIf the bronzer is the only thing that you wouldn't use, then it may still be worth it to get it– especially since you can get the VIB discount! The powder palette is definitely worth the splurge, and thankfully it is permanent so you don't need to feel pressured to buy!
DeleteUlp! That packaging alone draws me in. However, Diffused Light was too pale for me when I swatched in store :(
ReplyDeleteIt's a really lovely palette, but it's only worth the splurge if you know that you will use most of the shades. If Diffused light is the only shade that you won't use on its own, I think that it's still worth getting the palette because you can use Diffused Light to tone down other powder products like really loud blushes that just need the edges softened.
DeleteBeautiful swatches, you talked me into it.I have it in my card online at Nordies hehe
ReplyDeleteThank you, Heather– that means a lot coming from you! I think that you will really love this palette! <3
DeleteI kept saying I wasn't gonna buy this... and then i bought it
ReplyDeleteLOL! Are you loving it?
DeleteI don't own any of the Hourglass powders, so this palette is definitely on my wish list! Great review.
ReplyDeleteHi Kristina, I'm surprised that you don't own any of their powders! You will love the texture and fantastic quality! I can't wait to hear what you think!
DeleteI have heard great things about this palette...I need to try it out on my skin tone before making final decision!

Hi Ursula! It's definitely worth going and swatching to see if it is a good fit for you! It's definitely a gorgeous, high quality palette~ :-)
DeleteOmigosh! Gorgeous!! I think every shade would work for me, which is rare!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it gorgeous, Babi?!!!! That is a rarity, indeed! There is usually at least one color in palettes that just don't work for me! This is definitely a gorgeous palette that is well worth having!
DeleteHour Glass never fails. They have such subtle, yet radiant colors. Love them.
ReplyDeleteHi Page, I completely agree with you! I am absolutely obsessed with their products!
