Tom Ford Ultra Shine Lip Gloss in Wet Violet 09 | Swatches and Review

Purchased by Me (Affiliate Links)

As I noted in my review for Tom Ford Ultra Shine Lip Gloss in Love Bruise, I know that many of you by far prefer lipsticks to lip glosses, but Tom Ford makes utterly amazing lip glosses that are well worth trying. These beauties boast superb pigmentation, semi-opaque to opaque coverage, long wear time, and are exceptionally comfortable on the lips.

According to Tom Ford Beauty, their Ultra Shine Lip Gloss is, "A high-shine, color-saturated gloss designed to achieve bold and glamorous lips. Its smooth and creamy texture has a high adherence and easy comfort. It can be worn alone or layered over Tom Ford lip color to add dimension to the lips."
As I previously noted in my Love Bruise review,

The Ultra Shine Lip Gloss formula has a delightful vanilla scent that is not overpowering, and it does fade rather quickly upon application. The texture of the gloss is quite thick and rich, compared to other glosses, lending itself to opaque coverage– although it can be sheered out. The texture is almost a touch sticky, but not quite- just enough to assure that it adheres to the lips, and is long-wearing by typical lip gloss standards. It actually feels a bit more like a liquid lipstick than a lip gloss, and I find that I get several hours of wear out of a single application. The high shine finish is both lush and elegant,  and not in the least bit overdone.
Wet Violet is a breathtaking blue-based purple-kissed wine with subtle pink and violet shimmer.  It can easily be sheered out, or built-up to nearly full opacity, but its tendency is to be a touch more opaque than sheer due to its rich color saturation. Wet Violet applies evenly, has never settled into lip lines, and boasts the perfect amount of cushion. I haven't experienced any migration off of my lips yet when worn alone, but due to its impressive pigmentation and gloss texture, albeit thicker than most, a lip liner (whether clear or pigmented) would mitigate any tendency to migrate. Wet Violet wears for an impressive four to five hours on my lips, and even a touch longer when worn over a lip liner.

The formula is just superb, and the color is sublime. Wet Violet is gorgeous alone or on top of your favorite plummy to vampy lipsticks. It is a truly extraordinary addition to my collection.

As I previously noted,

The brush applicator does have a tendency to extract more gloss than I need for a single application- therefore I do try to minimize waste by scraping it against the side of the tube while removing the wand. The wand itself is quite long permitting you to scrape the last bits from the bottom of the tube unlike many lip glosses.
While Tom Ford Beauty doesn't suggest that this gloss is moisturizing, I find that my lips feel conditioned when I wear it.
I applied it heavily at the bottom and sheered it around the edges in order for you to see how it appears when both sheered out and built up.
Of the vampy lip glosses that I have seen, this is unquestionably the most stunning.
Wet Violet is a breathtaking blue-based purple-kissed wine with subtle pink and violet shimmer.

  3. Wow...talk about a product that looks edible.

I feel like Tom Ford as a brand is making a huge come back this year. I have been seeing their products around the web these days.

I am glad though, because the more main stream these brands become the more affordable they will eventually become.

    Lovely post :)

    1. Hi Karen! Isn't it a stunning shade?! Tom Ford is definitely making beautiful things that have captured the attention of so many! I think that his Lips & Boys Collection was a big break-through, and the more affordable price point made the line more accessible to a much wider audience!

Thank you for your kind words, I am so glad that you enjoyed this post! :)

  8. Yo Sis!

Post about TF so of course had 2respond :)

This really does look like such a gorgeous colour despite me not being a gloss groupie nor a fan of dark shades in glossy/sheen formulas. Love the tubes of the TF lip glosses too. Was feeling pretty confident that wouldn't be splurging on his glosses but seeing this makes me feel like I may be turning! By the way,it's so funny as lately the products I've been interested in, I check if you've reviewed it & lo & behold you have! Case in point 1-Kiehls whipped body butter (soy & honey). Been using the original body cream which is lovely but only thing I don't like is the lack of scent...(I do like nicely scented shower gels & body creams) hence was looking at this version. Case in Point 2-Hourglass Lip Stylo in No.6. Came across these online & (even though do not need YET ANOTHER nude) couldn't resist looking at swatched. The one that caught my eye was no.6! Will respond to other posts shortly :)

    1. Good morning, my darling Sis!

It is a gorgeous color– as is Love Bruise, but I think that you should see and feel them in person first since you are decidedly more interested in lipsticks than glosses. That said, this is THE GLOSS to convert lipstick lovers!

HAHA– yes, I love Kiehl's and their Whipped Body Butter is just delectable! The Soy and Honey is really delightful! The original is amazing as well, and the lack of scent is nice for the days that you are wearing your Tobacco Vanille! BTW, I wore my sample yesterday and had my husband smell it, and he LOVED it! My birthday is next month– so I think that I sufficiently planted the seed that I love the fragrance!

The Hourglass Lip Stylo in No. 6 (and of course we would love the same shade) is fantastic! It's a nice easy to wear nude! It can even be used as a thick liner and filled in with another color to customize your shade.

I hope that you are having a wonderful weekend! <3

  9. Yes-would certainly check out the glosses in person-in reality, I can't see myself getting any more glosses than the Chanel ones I have (as we have previously discussed) but this is a really lovely colour.

Will test out the hourglass crayon in person too...am thinking it mayb similar 2 TF's sable smoke which I have (& am urging u 2try on) so can pass plus alot of reviews have complained about the minimal staying power?

Bonus that husband likes Tob Van (how could he not!) & how timely that your birthday is round the corner :)

Good point (as always!) ref. Kiehls original U scented lotion good for perfume days! The whipped version does indeed sound delectable though & may well be the one to purchase when I get through the original. Wish Kiehls products were cheaper tho-very expensive in UK although do last a long time.

    Ciao 4 now Sis xx

    1. All the more reason to see them in person, and your gut instincts will likely be right. Plus, the price is so close to that of a lipstick that it makes more sense for you to use that money toward a lipstick that you will truly covet. Agreed that the color is really lovely though, and so is the formula!

I think that the Hourglass Stylo is probably a bit less of a creamy warm neutral beige than Sable Smoke, but it would be very interesting to see them side by side. I will have to try to remember to carry it in my purse the next time I'm on the prowl at a TF counter! I haven't experienced such minimal staying power with the HG Stylo. I will have to pull it out and test the theory (since it has been a while since I have worn it)

He doesn't tend to go for fruity floral scents, but the moment that he smelled Tob Van he raised his eyebrows, opened his eyes wide, and proclaimed that it was an amazing scent!

The whipped version is definitely delectable! The texture is truly divine! Their products do last quite a while, but it is too bad that they are so expensive in the UK!

  10. Can't wait to try the whipped butter (sounds good enough to eat when put like that!). Alongside the original cream, I've also got Laura Mercier's body soufflé which has the most divine & lingering scent but is too light on the skin...I like body creams to sink into the skin effortlessly but have abit of substance as well.

My husband is the same (surprise surprise!)...doesn't like floral or fruity but loves vanilla so is a big fan of T V.

Look fwd to checking out the lip stylo & to your thoughts on it's similarity (or not) to sable smoke.

Yes, I think it's the price of the TF gloss vis a vis the lipsticks coupled with my ho hum attitude to gloss that means am unlikely to purchase (sensible hat on) but the colour of wet Violet does look lovely....funny how suddenly these sort of colours are catching my eye!

    1. It smells good enough to eat! Laura Mercier's body soufflé is divine! I don't have any, but I have tried testers and samples! They are quite lovely!

No surprise there! Perhaps our husbands are long lost brothers as well! Certainly they both have good taste in fragrance!

Yes, you have certainly piqued my curiosity about sable smoke vs. HG No. 6!

Exactly, they have a hefty price tag, and quite frankly that is quite a commitment for a lip gloss– therefore I think that it is very important that you love the formula and really have a hankering for one of his lip glosses before spending that much since it is basically the price of one of the TF lipsticks! It really is interesting that you have become so responsive to these vampy shades! Welcome to the fold (look, here I seem to be beckoning Deleuze:)

    2. Welcome to the fold indeed (I go to bed wondering what bruised plum would look like!) so now the sublime & the ridiculous are being actively combined...I think Deleuze with his nomadic, mix & match tendencies would be impressed! Certainly is expensive for a lipgloss..will stick with my couple of Chanel glossimers & TF sheers for when I feel like some gloss!

It's only right husbands should be long lost brothers!

I have Laura Mercier body soufflé in almond & coconut milk which is lovely plus my friend gave me creme brûlée as a gift, which I haven't tried yet but am sure it's delicious also!

    3. This is fabulous! I suspect that the sublime and the ridiculous occupy some liminal space between universes! Deleuze would have to appreciate our alternative universe!

I definitely think that you can pass on the glosses since you are perfectly happy with your Glossimers!

They definitely should be long lost brothers!

The combination of almond and coconut is delicious and mouth-watering! LM Crème brûlée sounds absolutely delectable!

    4. I like that...certainly in our universe-the sublime & ridiculous are 2 sides of the same coin-great universe 2b in!

Yes altho despite my protestations, have a feeling may end up with 1 TF gloss in my lifetime-lol! However, with my beloved Chanel giggle glossimer, whenever I wear it, I think to myself, this would be even better in rouge coco formula! So not a gloss girl I guess!

    5. They are, indeed!!!!!!! I agree that it is a glorious universe! to be in!

Haha! It will be interesting to see if you end up feeling the need to get one! As you know, I love Giggle as well, but agree that the Rouge Coco formula, and prefer it to the Glossimer formula as well! You really get more bang out of the former! Definitely more appealing for people who prefer lipstick to gloss!

  11. what a coincidence, i own the same two exact shades! i have to admit though, i'm not smitten. i hate the brush, especially when applying Wet Violet. i always end up with a darker edge of color that i have to smooth out with another lip brush. the golden sparkles of Love Bruise are lovely but too subtle when actually on lip yet leave very obvious glitter particles behind when the color wears off. i do like the light vanilla scent and i agree it does seem mildly hydrating.

    1. How funny! I love both of these colors, and the formula! The brush is definitely my least favorite part, and just don't think that it is designed that well. That said, I love the gloss so much that it is worth it to me, but I would be thrilled of it were a doe foot applicator instead!

The glitter in Love Bruise is definitely quite subtle, but I haven't really noticed the glitter particles left behind, but that's probably because I tend to reapply sooner rather than later. I will definitely have to try letting it wear away and see how much glitter remains.
