Delilah and Lucy are absolute busybodies, and any sound from the greater outdoors results in a harmonized a cappella performance. The edge of the couch allows them to catch a glimpse of the street, and the view of passing dogs and birds results in fits of semi-hysterical self-expression. Delilah, in particular, takes great pride in her ability to protect us from any menacing creatures who might even consider coming within a hundred feet of the house. However, she also feels as though this act of protection and loyalty deserves a kind of built-in reward that includes, but is not limited to, the perfunctory hugs and treats. That's right, she doesn't care whether they are delivered without interest, or with great interest– it only matters that this part of the ritual must be performed. Lucy, though pint-sized comparatively, has a shrill voice that easily achieves the highest octaves imaginable. This ability seems to give her great pleasure, or at least the power in knowing that she will get the attention that she seeks from this particular gift.
However, the couch is also a place of celebration, and there is nothing more exciting than the sound and sight of a familiar car gliding up the driveway. The satisfaction that these two gain from seeing one of their human family members emerge from a car is one of their great pleasures. They quickly disembark (pun intended) and make a swift run for the door to greet their people. Their sloppy kisses, big smiles and wagging tails make the end of a long day somehow feel perfect, as though all is right with the world.

Pets really do bring joy to life, don't they?
ReplyDeleteThey most certainly do! It's amazing how much better life is with them in it!
Deleteawwww how adorable! you take such artistic shots of your pets.
ReplyDeleteThey are definitely adorable pups! I can't actually take credit for this picture! My husband took it!
DeleteI keep stalking your page for the February Barney's/Space NK deals. This time, instead, I got a look into your personal life. I see you are a pet lover!
ReplyDeleteI am waiting for the information! Barneys keeps the information under wraps, and actually tells me not to publish anything until the date that they choose. However, they haven't told me anything yet. I will reach out to both companies to see if I can get the February dates.
DeleteYou definitely got a glimpse into my personal life, and I actually get lots of emails requesting more animal posts! I am a definite lifelong pet lover! Do you live with canines and/or felines as well?
No, I don't. Both my son and I are allergic to cats. I like dogs but we are too lazy to have them! I grew up with a dog but that was when they roamed free. Long ago said I am not walking a dog in the winter and not picking up crap at any time. So....
ReplyDeleteThen you can certainly appreciate them from afar without litter boxes or walks to contend with! :-)
