The blogosphere has been all abuzz about the new lipsticks that Gerard Cosmetics recently launched, and I thought that I would give you my take on them.
I have two perfectly on trend shades that should appeal to a great many lipstick fans: one is a peachy nude and the other a peachy coral. They both offer exceptional pigmentation and full opaque coverage in a single pass. Nude and Tequila Sunrise are long-wearing mattes that are a touch heavier and a bit more dry than regular lipstick formulas, but akin to the texture of many of the mattes on the market today. I find them to be comfortable on the lips but I do feel their presence. The cold winter weather has prompted me to apply a lip balm first since my lips have been dry lately and I need a bit more emollience, and if you have dry lips you will likely want to apply a balm first as well.
Nude is described by Gerard Cosmetics as, "our famous nude lip gloss in lipstick form. Buttery, full coverage and a stunning neutral hue that can be mixed with any lip color to create the perfect lip color."
I would describe Nude as a mid-tone warm peachy nude matte lipstick.
You will note that neither shade is a flat matte, but instead has a slight sheen.
Top to Bottom: Tequila Sunrise and Nude
Overall Assessment: Rich pigmentation in a single pass, and a resilient formula that wears for many many hours. If you have dry lips, you will definitely want to prep your lips and apply a bit of lip balm first. If your lips are very chapped you will want to get your lips in good shape first– otherwise the formula will accentuate your dry flaky lips (as will most matte lipsticks). When my lips are chapped I avoid lipsticks altogether, and use emollient lip balms to heal them before resuming my lipstick indulgences!$19.00 each from Gerard Cosmetics (Unaffiliated Links).

OMG gimme Tequila Sunrise already! What a stunning shade! I must have been living under a rock because I haven't heard of the brand, but I'll look into it!
ReplyDeleteTequila Sunrise is definitely a perfect color for you, Sunny!
DeleteI have two lipsticks and I'm amazed about the pigment in them. They are so rich in color and so quickly. I do make sure my lips are moisturized since they are so intense.
ReplyDeleteIsn't the pigmentation utterly amazing?! You are so right that the colors are so rich, and I agree completely about the need to moisturize my lips as well. Which colors did you get, Marcia?
Deletegorgeous, gorgeous colors! I can't believe I haven't heard of this line before! I mean, I can never resist a warm nude and coral shade...no matter which brand ;)
ReplyDeleteHi Maeve, These two shades are perfect embodiments of the highly sought after warm nude and perfect coral. Of course if someone doesn't like matte lipsticks these two wouldn't be for them, but they are really truly gorgeous and ultra pigmented! :)
DeleteWould love to try these lipsticks, not sure where to get them from in Australia! Is it worth the hype?
ReplyDeletethanks for the lovely post,
Charley and Isabel x
Hi Charley and Isabel,
DeleteGerard Cosmetics ships internationally– I just went and checked their website. If you just go to their website you will see that there are small monetary icons at the top that converts their prices to the various currencies, and at the bottom they have they shipping information.
I'm so glad that you enjoyed the post! Thank you for stopping by! :-)
Ooooh Tequila Sunrise! Now that's my kinda color!
ReplyDeleteIt would look gorgeous on you! It's pretty much the perfect shade of coral!
DeleteSeriously, I hear so many good reviews on these lipsticks. I really like how Nude looks!
ReplyDeleteHi Jessica! I really like Nude as well. It's got just enough peach in it to make it a very wearable nude shade.
DeleteLove the packaging on these! Loving the pigmentation on Tequila Sunrise.
ReplyDeleteHi Brianna,
DeleteYeah the packaging is basically a gold MAC bullet. The pigmentation is out of this world!
I just got 1995! Can't wait to try some of these shades, too!! <3
ReplyDeleteYAY! I can't wait to read your review! 1995 looks so gorgeous! <3
DeleteI've heard so much in passing, but no real reviews on these so thanks! The both shades are so perfect.
ReplyDeleteHi Bailey! You are so welcome. There are some people who find them a touch drying, but I have been wearing them over a balm, and they are just fine! The pigmentation is insane!
DeleteI love that you mentioned about the dry lips... I just talked to someone who said it worked well with dry lips... but I'm always looking for someone's opinion I know I can trust. The shades are really nice and I have been seeing some great shades from this line.
ReplyDeleteHi Honey!
DeleteSome people seem to find the formula itself drying. I tried it without balm and it did not dry out my lips. It is a very opaque matte lipstick formula, and while it has a touch of sheen it really clings to the lips and is long-wearing. It feels better with a dab of lip balm to me, but it's also winter so I am doing that with all of my more resilient lipstick formulas. The pigmentation is absolutely amazing, and you can get full opacity in a single pass. I can only imagine how the deeper and darker colors perform!
I like the shades, they would definitely work well with a lighter skin tone (I usually favor more red/ berry colors).
ReplyDeleteHi Norah, I agree, these shades are definitely very pretty! Reds and berries are so gorgeous!
DeleteLOVE Tequila Sunrise!
ReplyDeleteHi Kristin! Isn't it a pretty shade?!
