Touching Base | What's Ahead in Beauty at Lola's Secret Beauty Blog

I have to confess that I am a touch tired right now. All of the recent beauty events with their overlapping dates and times had me running to events, attending special functions and burning the candle at both ends. I felt like I spent more time at Barneys and Neiman Marcus than I did at home, but I had a really lovely time!

The highlights were the Space NK Autumn Beauty Edit (in the US, but I will be announcing the upcoming UK version soon!), the Barneys New York LOVE YOURSELF Bag Event and the Neiman Marcus The Beauty Event. These events are always a great deal of fun, and I have so many friends at these stores that they are always very fun social events for me.

One of the great honors was being invited to attend the Tom Ford Master Class at Neiman Marcus Beverly Hills. It was led by the legendary makeup artist and Education Director for Tom Ford Beauty, Todd Davidson, and let me just say that I am still floating on cloud nine! Let this teaser wash over you because I am working on a very detailed account of this amazing event.

I also recently received a life changing 90 minute Craniosacral Therapy Facial at the Well Being Medical Center from Joan Uemura Shure. As noted in my mini facial at Pharmaca with Joan, she is an astoundingly gifted Holistic Esthetician. I will be presenting you with the entire experience and my growing love of the evanhealy products that Joan used.

I was also invited to eSalon, a cutting edge company that makes custom hair color to be applied at-home. I was treated to an extraordinary grand tour of their Culver City headquarters, and had custom color applied by the world renown colorist Estelle Baumhauer-- who is a truly gifted artist (and a partner at e-Salon). I will be featuring my amazing experience soon!

This week I plan to rest and catch up on some sleep, attend the grand opening of the first brick and mortar Hourglass free-standing store on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice, and catch up on emails!
Update on Fannie's health: My sweet 15 year old girl is doing quite well given that she is in renal failure. Her kidneys are function at one-third capacity and she is anemic, but she has gained some weight and is happy. The vitamins that she takes daily seem to be controlling her anemia, and her healthy appetite is definitely having a stabilizing effect on her. She runs about, seeks out lots of love, and purrs and purrs and purrs. My hope is that with close medical monitoring that she has a good long time ahead. She's my sweet baby girl, and I just want her to have the best quality of life possible. You will note in this picture that her eyes are closed-- I woke her from a sweet slumber to give her food, and while she quickly came to me she still wasn't yet quite awake!

Have a wonderful Monday! What's in store for you this week? Did you partake in any of the recent beauty events? If so, what were the highlights for you? Do you love your purchases and gifts with purchases? Do tell!

  2. You had my attention as soon as I saw those Tom Ford goodie bags! Now I can hardly wait for the recounting of your experience at the Tom Ford Master Class. Todd Davidson is outstanding! And not only is he adept at transforming an older woman such as I from "une femme d'un certain âge" to "une femme sans âge" :-) but he delights in sharing the how and why of it all. I love it when an accomplished MA such as Todd takes the time to explain as he goes because I'm there to learn something. It's always interesting to see how a true artist interprets my features when creating a fresh and modern look, but it is the explanation behind it which I value the most. I guess it just goes to show that many of us old dogs really do like to learn new tricks :-)

As for the lovely Fannie, keeping her comfortable and feeling loved and secure is a shared blessing that flows between the two of you. Peaceful moments, deep devotion, contentment and ease; all accompanied by a gentle touch, can bring a bit of heaven into your earthly lives. Let your love flow over her for as long as she was with you.

    1. Hi Eileen! I felt the same way when I walked into the room and saw them! The event was absolutely amazing, and you are quite right about Todd-- he is such a gifted and talented man! He truly does delight in transforming the face, and his skills are so cultivated and rare! I will definitely try to finish my post this week, but I think that we should attend the next one together!

Thank you for your kind and loving words about my beloved Fannie-- I truly appreciate it! She is such a special kitty, and I will do anything in my power to keep her happy and well. I flood her with love every single day, and delight in her deep grumbling purr! She is a special girl, indeed! xoxox

  3. Hello Lola,
I shopped at all three events burning a hole in my pocket. I was In sfo the whole day running between the three stores, love going in person though it is chaotic.Shopping in person is a totally different experience unless it's far away. The beauty bag of spacenk was humongous. I agree it was their best bag ever.i was happy Barneys lowered their price point ( a little shocking though). Neiman Marcus was good. I got so many goodies from Tom Ford.Nevertheless, after coming home I put together all the samples together and started dividing them in creams, serums, cleansers and body care.I felt I have stocked so much I don't need anything till fall next year.i have decided not to purchase anything except necessities at sephora vib sale.Hopefully I stick to that.Apologies for my long post.thanks for updating us with all the info of the beauty events, I wouldn't have known about them.

    1. Hi Saby! I know just what you mean-- my pockets took a beating as well! What fun you must have had running between the three stores! You must have been quite exhausted because all three stores are not next to one another on Union Square!

You are so right-- shopping these events in person is a very different type of experience, and any one of then alone can be quite chaotic! Yes, the Space NK bag was absolutely gigantic, and the contents are so amazing! I think everybody would agree with you that it is really nice that Barneys dropped the GWP price back down to $200.00. What Tom Ford goodies did you get at Neiman Marcus? What were your Barneys and Space NK purchases? Are you thrilled with all of your new goodies?

I do the same thing once-- when I dismantle the gift bags I organize them. Rather than doing it by product type I do it by brand-- that way I have all of their products together. I separate out all of the makeup and store it together, but keep all of the skincare, body care and hair care products in the same big samples drawer. I keep them in little bags so that they are easy to access!

I know what you mean about wanting to curb your spending after these events-- I feel the same. I'm not even sure whether I will shop the Sephora VIB sale-- unless there are things that I just don't want to pass up! Please don't apologize for the length of your lovely comment-- I enjoyed every bit of it! :-)
