Alaffia Handcrafted Shea Butter in Lavender Mint Review

Press Sample (Affiliate Links)

I have used shea butter for many years, and Alaffia's Fair Trade Handcrafted Shea Butter remains one of my very favorites. I have usually used their unscented shea butter, but have since fallen head-over-heels in love with their lavender mint version. The scent is a light and refreshing blend of lavender and spearmint, and while the scent is delectable it does fade soon upon application.

Shea Butter is wonderfully rich and moisturizing, and if you have any dry patches, dry hands, or dry feet you will be astounded by how effortlessly this wonder-balm will heal the skin and restore moisture. It is very dense and concentrated-- so a little bit goes a very long way. I simply scoop out a small amount and then warm it in my hands until it emulsifies and then massage it into my skin. My skin is left unbelievably soft, supple and moisturized-- and the results last all day long.
According to Alaffia,

Shea butter has been a staple of African skin care for millennia. Receive the full moisturizing and protective benefits of its unique fatty acid profile and Vitamins E with our traditionally handcrafted, unrefined shea butter. Scented with lavender and mint essential oils.

Overall assessment: Not only is Alaffia a Fair Trade company with an admirable social conscience, but they also make truly amazing products. Their shea butter has remained one of my favorite products, and I have repeatedly repurchased it over the years and will continue to do so. If you have chronically dry hands-- then you owe it to yourself to try this wonder-product.

  2. I need this for my ballet feet! :-P I'd like it for my winter hands, too, but if there's peppermint in there I'll probably have to wait till the eczema dies down a little bit... ;-)

    1. Hi Syl, It's spearmint rather than peppermint, but if your eczema is acting up you might opt for their unscented shea butter instead! IT is just as amazing, but without the scent of the essential oils from the lavender and spearmint! Alaffia makes really wonderful products! I highly recommend Alaffia! :-)
