The signage boasts, "Gel Powder Eyeshadow. A First! Pure Color. One Stroke Application. Power Wear." There are 12 colors marked on the display, but Bella Taupe was not among them-- therefore I imagine that they are already adding to this new line. Nowhere does it say that these are Limited Edition, and the old Milani eye shadows were on sale-- so your guess is as good as mine as to whether these are replacing the old shadows, or whether they are simply a new addition to the line. I noticed that some of the shades were marked Satin Matte, like Bella Taupe that I purchased, and others are marked Metallic and Shimmer-- therefore it appears that they come in three distinct finishes.
EDIT: These are permanent & launching in July:
At $4.59 for 0.05 oz. the price point is definitely affordable, and even though the display was full and I could have walked away with every color, I decided to try one to see if I liked the formula.
While I do find the formula to be very smooth and finely milled, I don't really perceive anything gel-like about the texture.According to Milani,
A gel powder – what would that even look like? We’ll tell you: It looks like rich, vibrant color that glides on in a single stroke, delivering a stunning multi-dimensional effect. What makes it a gel powder? Well, the formula starts as a gel and then is transformed by a special process into a stunning powder eyeshadow with pure color and power wear.
The unique process allows you to blend this incredibly innovative, weightless formula easily with your fingertips to light up your eyes. Even more to entice: It can used wet or dry, resists creasing, and comes in satin matte, shimmer and iridescent metallic finishes. You just have to try this gel powder. It’s that different.
Bella Taupe 05 is a really gorgeous taupe, and certainly worth the price tag!
Application is smooth, even and very finely milled. Bella Taupe can be built up to maximum opacity, but can likewise be sheered out for a lovely wash of color. Smoky-eye fans who love taupe-- you have hit the jackpot with Bella Taupe! Bella Taupe offers long-wearing gorgeously pigmented color at an unbelievably affordable price.Top swatch is applied with a light hand, whereas the bottom swatch was achieved with multiple passes. That the finish is called a Satin Matte is a somewhat confusing designation since each seems to contradict the other. It isn't a matte in the traditional sense that mattes tend to offer flat shimmer free finishes. Bella Taupe isn't truly a matte since there is some dimensionality to the shade thus explaining the Satin quality to the finish. This is no criticism, on the contrary, Bella Taupe boasts a stunning finish! When you consider the beautiful finish coupled with the gorgeous color-- you have a true winner!
Definitely a Taupelicious shade!

This looks like a dupe for Burberry taupe brown!
ReplyDeleteHi Alexandria!! Great observation-- you are so right! Sadly I don't have Taupe Brown among my Burberry singles-- otherwise I would swatch them together! :-)
DeleteThis looks really interesting! I love the color, what a great basic color to have! Thanks for sharing! :) I love that Milani answered you on Twitter too. Yay for brands being interactive with bloggers! <3
ReplyDeleteHi Amber! I love the color as well, and I hold out great hope for these eye shadows! What's really great is that I didn't even ask them the question-- I just Tweeted them the review, and they Tweeted me back to let me know that they were permanent. I totally agree with you-- it's so nice when brands actually interact with us! <3
DeleteHey! I see you found these in Los Angeles. Which one did you find it at? I've been searching and still no luck.
ReplyDeleteHey Kelly! I found it at the CVS on Beverly Blvd. & La Cienega at the Beverly Connection across from the Bev Center. They were in a cardboard display in that low shelf display that wraps around the big main check out station. I don't know if they are still in that location, or whether they have been integrated into the permanent Milani display yet. You might want to call before you go to see if they have them in stock. They are part of the permanent collection though-- so you should be able to find them soon since they officially launched this month! Let me know if you find them! Have a lovely weekend :-)
