While I immensely enjoy the summer weather, and despite the fact that lots of Mediterranean blood courses through my veins, I opt to stay out of the sun. Throughout most of the year I have fair-leaning olive skin, however with very little coaxing I can become quite dark. That said, I don't particularly care for the cumulative sun damage associated with long sessions of sun exposure, nor do I embrace the prospects of getting skin cancer-- therefore I stay loaded up on sunscreen instead of basking in the sun. This is particularly important since I live in Southern California where, by many people's standards, the weather seems to be summer nearly 12 months out of the year (yes, that is a slight exaggeration)-- so sunscreen it something that I reach for year round.
My husband is an avid surfer, and literally has been since he was a wee little tyke-- therefore it should come as no surprise that he has logged in countless hours at the beach and in the water. When I suggest that he is a serious surfer, I mean to say that he is among those who take yearly trips to surfing hotspots in Indonesia, Costa Rica, New Zealand, Fiji, and Samoa to name but a few. His travel companions are equally serious about their surfing, some of whom are former Pro Surfers, and they have all learned that among the must-haves that make it to their well-edited surf bags is a stash of serious sunscreens.
When he saw my bottles of Sun Bum Continuous Spray Sunscreen SPF 30 & Moisturizing Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50, he was more interested than he tends to be about anything that I might be reviewing, and announced that both were going with him to Indonesia since Sun Bum was the thing that each of them was packing. Honestly, I had no idea that Sun Bum had achieved cult status among serious surfers, but this stuff is so good that I can certainly see why. While I don't use it for surfing, I do use it when I go outside, and I will definitely be replacing both bottles since mine have been stolen from me!

gotta love the name: so surfer-style and cheeky. The experts often know their stuff and I'm happy to hear it passed the beautyblogger standards too
ReplyDeleteI know, the name is so cheeky! I honestly had no idea that surfers loved these products, but my husband's reaction when he saw me playing with these products said a great deal! Pretty funny that he stole them from me, and that I'm less than thrilled by giving them up! I will definitely have to replace them both!!!!!
