Each time that I publish a By Request post I seem to receive yet another request. Thank you for indulging me- I am having fun working on this series. This time Rachel asked that I reveal how I store by brushes- so here goes!
I have gone through numerous ways of storing my brushes, but I am pretty content with my current method. I quickly dismissed a brush roll because I have accumulated too many brushes. I also stopped storing them in glass, ceramic, or metal containers because they often cause the brushes to get dinged and damaged. Therefore, I opted to find something made out of wood. I thought that I should try somewhere like Bed, Bath & Beyond, but ended up finding vertical bamboo cutlery boxes in the kitchen section at Ross for about $9.00 a piece. I bought two: one for faces brushes, and another for eye makeup brushes.
My primary reason for wanting wood was that many of my brushes are Hakuhodos, and since I spent an arm and two legs on them I wanted to keep them in good shape.
I organized all of the eyebrow and eye makeup brushes in one of the 4 compartment bamboo cutlery boxes. On the far left I keep all eyebrow and eyelash brushes, and since I don't have many of them it has lots of space available. The second compartment is filled with eyeshadow brushes, crease brushes and anything else that needs a home. The following compartment is basically various eye lining brushes (though it appears that eyebrow/eyelash spool brush migrated to this compartment). The far right compartment is largely filled with blending brushes- though two of them are actually small Hakuhodo Highlighter brushes that I most often use on the eyes, or even for concealer.
With a few exceptions, nearly all of the face brushes are Hakuhodos.
The far left contains finishing, blending, powder, and highlighter brushes. The next compartment is an assortment non-Hakuhodo finishing, blending, and miscellaneous brushes. The third compartment is duo fiber brushes for foundation and/or blush. The far right compartment is a combination of Hakuhodo and Rouge Bunny Rouge blush brushes.I placed a thick cotton pad in the bottom of the far left compartment because that is where I store my Hakuhodo S100 Series brushes that feature the gorgeous vermilion wooden handles and 24K clear coated brass/gold ferrules- therefore I wanted added protection from dinging up these gorgeous handcrafted works of art.
This ceramic claw foot tub was a party favor filled with mini bath products, and I thought that it was cute and would come in handy for something in my stash. It turned out to be the perfect size and depth to house my shorter brushes that would get lost in the bamboo boxes.
What is less than ideal is how all of my brushes are stored in my deep built-in cabinet in my master bathroom. They share space with piles of skincare products, and the whole space is in great need of an overhaul because it lacks efficiency. Call it a work in progress. How do you store your brushes?
Thanks for this! I find it really helpful =)
ReplyDeleteYou are so welcome, Rachel! I am very glad that you find it helpful. The kitchen storage sections in Ross, Bed, Bath & Beyond, and Marshalls should prove to have lots of great solutions. Also the Container Store is a great resource. It will definitely beat your kitchen table-- especially after you start collecting those Tom Ford Brushes!! Let me know what you end up doing! :-)
DeleteWow, such cute storage and nice brushs.

Hi Tiffany Nicole,
DeleteI'm glad that you like my storage and brushes. I love the bathtub as well-- it is the perfect height for shorter Kabuki type brushes! I know, I'm such a huge fan of Hakuhodo brushes-- they really are amazing works of art!! Thanks for stopping by! :D
This is so lovely. I especially liked that tiny bathtub. How cute is that...
ReplyDeleteThank you! I love that little bathtub as well! :-)
DeleteI use random tubs with disposable racking for cryotubes at the bottom-this keeps the brushes separate & doesn't look super ugly.
ReplyDeleteHi Mopsy,
DeleteThat's a great way to store them! I like that you keep the brushes separate! Thanks for sharing! :D
Hey Lola,
ReplyDeleteI recall the photos you posted earlier of your deep cabinets and it got me thinking of my aunt's "slide-out" shelf organizer. She uses it in her bathroom cabinet to store lotions and creams. It's handy for pulling out items that would be otherwise lost in the back. I think she found it at Winners (the Canadian version of TJ Maxx) but I bet IKEA, maybe the Container Store, or any home improvement store would have something similar. Slide-out organizers may make your existing storage system more accessible.
Anyway... I hope you had a great weekend!
Good memory BooBoo!!! Excellent idea- I actually had thought about that as well, but haven't been to IKEA or the Container Store in a while. You have motivated me to take some measurements and carry them with me- so that next time I am near one of these stores I can pop in and see if they have any in that size!! You are soooooooo awesome for thinking of that. <3
DeleteThe weekend whirled by so fast-- and here we are back at Monday again :D. I hope that you had a wonderful weekend! <3
What a great idea! I'm going to check if I can find simething like this in my town!
ReplyDeleteHi Endless Summer, It should be fairly easy to find something like this-- just cruise through the kitchen department of any of the big discount stores, and you should be able to find a suitable solution! :D
