According to Burberry, "Burberry Eye Enhancer comes in twenty weather inspired shades from iconic trench to smoky metal. The shadows can be blended to create a range of eye enhancing colours
The innovative formula uses silicones for smooth and flawless application and contains micronised satin smooth pigments to ensure long-lasting colour."
The packaging itself is luxe and hefty, but as noted in my Blueberry Lip Mist review, "Another thing that can be a bit of a challenge is the presence of the magnet closure mechanism that is definitely a nice feature when in use, but can become somewhat problematic when being stored. Those very magnets simultaneously attract and repel other makeup- making your makeup storage an active kinetic space! It makes stacking them problematic and at times somewhat frustrating, but it is an inconvenience that I will happily endure because the products themselves are amazing."
Burberry Sheer Eye Shadows can be used both wet and dry- therefore if you want to increase the depth and intensity apply them with a dampened brush and see them spring to life with greater vigor!
Midnight Plum is a complex purple plum shade that is simply stunning. It has a gorgeous shimmer finish with absolutely no fallout. It is creamy and dreamy to apply, and I find it long-wearing with or without primer, but I do not have oily eyelids. You will definitely enliven the color over a primer, and applying it damp will really bring the color to life.
The top swatch in both photographs was applied damp, whereas the bottom swatches in each was applied dry.
As you can clearly see, when applied damp the color is greatly intensified.

$29.00 0.088 oz. I purchased mine at Nordstrom.
Oh my plum! Lol. This is gorgeous! I definitely prefer the the wet application swatches, it's a lovely color both ways but it just comes to life so much more applied wet!
ReplyDeleteIsn't this a gorgeous shade, Mina?! I agree with you- I prefer the wet application because it really brings the shade to life! This would look STUNNING on you! I tried not to be tempted by this shade, but the last time that I went to the Burberry counter I got weak in the knees when I swatched it (mind you, I had swatched it numerous times before, but just couldn't resist it this last time!). Have a lovely weekend! <3
DeleteUh oh. *GULP*
ReplyDeleteI know, that was precisely my reaction as well! It has got to be one of the most gorgeous purple/plum hues of all time!
DeleteThat is really pretty and I had not even thought to buy that shade, thank you for sharing, onto the wish list it goes :) xx
ReplyDeleteThis one definitely deserves a place on your wish list!! xoxox
DeleteYikes, your picture is gorgeous. I remember seeing it at the display but I didn't realize how gorgeous it would be.
ReplyDeleteI actually thought of you when I bought this one!! I thought about your love of Chantecaille Tanzanite, and how much I think that you would love this color! That said, if you don't wear these colors often- then you probably don't need it. I wish that I had Tanzanite to swatch it side by side, but they seem similar. I am definitely very happy with this purchase!!
DeleteThis along with midnight brown and mulberry would make such grungey smokey eye ! LOVE !
ReplyDeleteneed this now
You definitely need this one!! <3
Deletethis along with midnight brown and mulberry would make such a gorgeous grungey eye ! love
ReplyDeleteI totally agree!!!!
DeleteI love this color! In the pan, that is, because this particular shade fades very quickly on my oily lids (yes, even WITH a primer...)
ReplyDeleteWell, that doesn't stop me from playing with it! Also, did you notice how smoothly it applies? Purple tends to be a tricky color to create, since most of the purple shades in the cosmetic universe apply rather patchy.
Do you happen to have Mulberry? If you don't, you should give it a try - definitely have it applied on your eyes before you make up your mind about it, as it tends to change from burgundy to the loveliest purple (!) depending on the undercolor of your skin in that area. For example I have blue and it goes on purple (and a purple that doesn't fade on me, unlike Midnight Plum).
Oh, and thank you for the wet swatches! I haven't tried it myself, but, from what I saw, I loooove the intensity it brings out and it might have better lasting power.
Hi Mel, I am so bummed to hear that this one fades quickly on you!!!!!!!!!!! I haven't had that problem, but my lids aren't very oily.
DeleteYou are so right about how smooth it is- especially compared to the many oddly gritty purple shadows out there. Burberry magic, I guess!
I do have Mulberry- I will have to swatch these side by side. You are so right-- Mulberry is a truly magical color!!! Sometimes it almost looks like a purple brown on me. I LOVE IT!!!!!!
You are very welcome- I'm glad that you find the wet swatches useful-- it really does bring out the best aspects of the color and finish without looking too sparkly! :-)
I'm sure I don't have to tell you I want this but I'll say it anyway. I want this!!! LOL!!! So gorgeous...so, so gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteIt is sooooooooo gorgeous, Gummy! I would definitely consider it a must have for those who love purple shades. If you haven't swatched it yet- it's the perfect excuse to go to our Mecca to play with it!
DeleteI have this too and I only have one word, GORGEOUS!! It blends beautifully and it pairs nicely with neutrals too :)
ReplyDeleteI completely agree! It's just one of the prettiest purples!! It really does pair nicely with neutrals. I also think that it makes a gorgeous eyeliner! :)
DeleteSo pretty. Love how the sparkle emerges when applied wet. I don't really even like purple, and I want this bad boy!
ReplyDeleteIsn't this a gorgeous shade! I agree the sparkle is magical when applied wet! I don't wear a lot of purple on my eyes, but I love lining my eyes with this-- i't a real stunner!
DeleteAmazing shade for evening or smokey eyes makeup! :)
ReplyDeleteAgreed! It's also really pretty as a liner! :-)
DeleteGorgeous. I've really been loving single eye colors lately and this one looks stunning.
ReplyDeleteHi Liesl! I agree- singles have always been my preference-- too often I don't like or use too many colors in palettes! I'm totally smitten with Burberry singles-- they are so buttery smooth with outstanding pigmentation! Midnight Plum is no exception, and it really is a stunning color!! Enjoy the rest of your weekend! :D
DeleteI am salivating as I type this comment. It is a very pretty eyeshadow!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Kath!! It is definitely a drool-worthy color!! This would look amazing on you!!!!!!!! <3
DeleteThey should name the shade stunning plum!! I LOVE the subtle shimmer and the depth and the complexity of the color
ReplyDeleteExactly!! It really is such a stunning color!! Your description is spot on!! <3
DeleteSuch a gorgeous color, especially wet. I would hate to mess up the pattern though, lol.
ReplyDeleteHi ahhhdri, I completely agree! THough wearing away the pattern does mean that it gets a lot of love :-)
DeleteAck! I just recently discovered Burberry's make up and I'm in love! HOWEVER I'm dying for Midnight Plum, but they don't make this color any more. :( I had a similar color from a different brand years ago (can't remember the brand, but it was part of gloss eyeshadow duo--the color was provided in both dry and glossy/cream version, back in the day when glossy eyeshadow was all the rage). Anyway, the color was like this--very rich and plummy/eggplanty and very unique. Loved it. Always looked for a replacement, but never found one. Then I found this while searching your Burberry reviews only to see they no longer make it. **cries** I do have some other great shades, but this is the one my heart sings for. Thanks again for all your great reviews!!!!
ReplyDeleteHi!!!!!! Burberry does make gorgeous makeup. I haven't tried any of the newly formulated single eyeshadows, but their old formula still ranks among my very favorites. I have no idea why on earth they would have discontinued Midnight Plum because it really is a very special shade. I do hope that they add it back into their permanent collection. Perhaps since they launched at Sephora, and will likely see a surge in sales, they will consider bringing back some of their discontinued beauties! You are so very welcome! Thank you so much for your kind words– it means a great deal to me! Have a lovely weekend! <3
DeleteI think you're right about the surge in sales, because I wasn't even aware of Burberry beauty until the Sephora launch. Now I'm wondering why I ever missed out on it. The quality is just superb and the packaging is divine and luxe in a way that other high end cosmetic packaging isn't. I hope you're right about Midnight Plum. It's really special.
DeleteI actually think that may be the case for a great many people. Only a few Nordstrom physical stores carry the line, and I don't think that all of the Saks Fifth Avenue stores have a counter– so this new addition to the Sephora line up will certainly bolster sales! Imagine what it will be like around the VIB Sales! It is a really special shade, and I certainly hope that they have the wisdom to bring it back! :-)
