Delilah & Lucy: A Tale of Two Busy-Body Girls at the Window

This picture, captured by my husband, illustrates just how nosy and curious Delilah and Lucy are. From their vantage point they can just barely catch a glimpse of the sidewalk, but they see just enough to alert us of the dangers of a Chihuahua unlawfully walking on their block in their kingdom. Despite the fact that Lucy is ostensibly a half-pint, her little shrill voice carries full-throttle- no doubt a delight to our neighbors. All the while Delilah bellows with the vigor and conviction of a 200 pound male Mastiff- despite her sweet and affectionate disposition. Their passionate combined efforts amount to a canine concert that displeases us greatly, but they are exceedingly proud of their ability to protect us from the squirrels in trees, birds in the sky, and of course the poor mailman. Post canine concerto they revel in their abilities by swaggering through the house in celebration of their prowess as great protectors, and of course demand treats for their considerable efforts.

  1. How lovely that you have two such vigilant guardians to keep you safe from wandering chihuahuas! I think the small size/ big voice thing goes across the animal kingdom. The smallest of our cats is by far the loudest and most vocal, like he's afraid we'll forget him (no danger there).

    1. They are nothing, if not vigilant! I completely agree about the small size/big voice paradigm in the animal kingdom!! It's pretty funny-- that is when it's not so shrill that it makes your ears hurt! Exactly, as if there's any chance of forgetting them!! Have a lovely weekend, Kate! <3

  2. Sweet:-) There are days when I'm relieved to go to work to get away from the barking of my pack. I probably say "no more barking" at least 10 times every morning. Cars going by should not, but somehow do, constitute an event.

    1. Hi Lulubelle! I have the same experience as well. I often work at home, but find so much of the time that I need to go and work at my office just to get away from all of the dog and cat shenanigans! Ahhh yes, the inherent threat of passing cars really does constitute a major event in our house as well. Plus Delilah and Lucy go bonkers when they catch a glimpse of someone walking on the other side of the street- to the extent that it warrants LOTS and LOTS of barking!!!!!!!!!!! Enjoy your weekend!
