Burberry Lip Mist in Blueberry Review & Swatches

I resisted the charms of Burberry Beauty for as long as I could because I really didn't need to add another luxury line to my collection. Therefore, I intentionally avoided it like the plague (knowing that once I tried it that I would likely succumb to the line)--until that fateful day that I caved under the weight of temptation. When I did finally test the line my suspicions were confirmed- I fell madly in love with Burberry Beauty. With each new product that I tried, it strengthened my resolve to delve deeper into the line and to determine whether or not I really was a Burberry kind of girl.
That I am a huge fan of the lipstick/lip balm hybrid paradigm made their Lip Mists the logical starting point for me. The packaging is ultra luxe with a satisfying heft and shiny mirrored surface that is sure to send even the most reserved makeup magpie into a frenzied state of delight! As the lid approaches the base of the tube a magnet snaps it into place with a pronounced thud. It just screams of quality and attention to detail. Of course Burberry fans will be smitten by the quintessential plaid pattern embossed directly into the lipstick itself- leaving no question as to who the designer is.
Blueberry is a gorgeous sheer vampy plummy wine shade that is buildable and simply divine whether built up or sheered out. It is utterly beautiful with a glossy finish that feels more like a lipstick when it applies, but looks a bit more like a gloss or sheer lipstick formula. It lasts longer than lip glosses do, but not quite as long as a regular lipstick. However, it definitely outperforms other hybrid products like Chanel Rouge Coco Shines in terms of longevity. I find that I get about 3-4 hours of wear time from the Lip Mists (drinking beverages too), but your wear time might vary. I have heard other report about 2 hours of wear, but that has not been the case for me. It is unquestionably one of my favorite formulas. It is also very moisturizing- leaving my lips soft and supple- which is undoubtedly a welcome attribute (particularly during the colder months of the year).

I can find no fault with Burberry Lip Mists for me personally. That said, the formula (rather unnecessarily) contains a pronounced perfume scent that will be an absolute deal breaker for those who cannot tolerate fragrance in their makeup let alone in their lipsticks. I have grown accustomed to the scent which I would liken to a vaguely floral aroma, but I do tend to prefer unscented lipsticks.

Another thing that can be a bit of a challenge is the presence of the magnet closure mechanism that is definitely a nice feature when in use, but can become somewhat problematic when being stored. Those very magnets simultaneously attract and repel other makeup- making your makeup storage an active kinetic space! It makes stacking them a challenge, and at times somewhat frustrating. That said, it is an inconvenience that I will happily endure because the products themselves are amazing.
Overall assessment: Now a staple in my collection! I love these so much!  I would urge you to try them in person, if possible, because the fragrance it a definite deal breaker for some people. I do, however, find that the fragrance dissipates on me after a few minutes of wear.

$30.00 3.5 g/.12 oz. I purchased mine at Nordstrom.

  2. I'm so jealous. I want one of these so bad, but like no stores near me sell them. I have to make a special trip to the city to give these a try. I'm going to make a point of trying these next trip into the city I take!

    1. Hi Rachel- You definitely need to test them out in person to see whether or not the fragrance will be a deal breaker for you- it definitely is too much for lots of people. The formula is amazing! :-)

    2. I will definitely try them in person, but more because I want to see what the col0ors look like to help me choose. I don't mind perfumed makeup as long as its a pleasant odor (the only problem I ever had was with a mally beauty lipgloss that reeked of nasty sweet strawberries).

    3. I think that you will really love the Lip Mists, and hopefully their fragrance isn't a turn off for you. I suspect that it won't be.

  3. Unfortunately the fragrance is a deal breaker. I finally gave up on the foundation for that reason too. But the eyeshadows are terrific. Pale Barley and Midnight Brown are staples for me.

    1. As I was writing this post, I was thinking of you-- and I knew that you would definitely pass on these because of all of the fragrance. I know how much you love their eyeshadows-- I totally agree about Pale Barley & Midnight Brown. What about their blushes, are they too fragranced for you as well? I suppose it's not a huge loss if they are since you prefer cream and liquid blush formulas instead. :-)

  5. This is prettttttyyyy.

I finished this post off with a little giggle. :) I was imagining you playing with a pile of Burberry lipsticks, stacking and creating with them like they were recalcitrant Lego pieces. Happy Tuesday, dear!

  6. Does Burberry have a gloss this color also or could you recommend a gloss to compliment the color? This shade is a staple for me. Thanks

    1. Hi Susan,

I don't have a Burberry Lip gloss that is close-- when I looked online the closest that they have seems to be Bright Plum, but I think that it appears significantly different. I went digging through my own stash of lip glosses and the three closest that I have are Le Métier de Beauté Uma Paro (GORGEOUS and pairs well with Blueberry), Susan Thompson Cosmetics Pout Poppers in Evelyn's Journey (also gorgeous and pairs well with Blueberry), and MAC Cremesheen Glass in Richly Revered (LE, but not as good a match as the other two).

Here are swatches of the first two:

If I can think of anything else close I will let you know! Happy Holidays! :-)
