Reviva Labs Microdermabrasion Pomegranate Scrub- Review

As a confirmed skincare junkie, I try a great many products-- both as a means of satisfying my own curiosity, and in an effort to bring you an unbiased view about the efficacy and quality of the many products that I try (in order to take some of the guesswork out of it for you). My person leanings have generally tended to favor luxury niche brands, but the sheer quality of every product that I have tried from Reviva Labs has caused a bit of a paradigm shift in my view of skincare. That is not to say that I plan on abandoning my favorite luxury lines, but instead Reviva Labs has radically broadened my view by showing me that high quality effective products do not have to cost a small fortune. Quite often affordable skincare lines tend to use lesser quality ingredients that may result in an adverse reaction or load the skin up with unnecessarily high levels of chemicals, but this is certainly not the case with Reviva Labs. Instead, they use the highest quality ingredients in their products, and their products are highly effective and affordable. What's more, is the fact that they are and always have been a Cruelty Free company.
I am a huge fan of scrubs and peels, so one of the Reviva Labs products that I was most intrigued and excited by was their Microdermabrasion Pomegranate Scrub. Their description alone excited me: "Our New, Improved Formula! Now even sensitive skin can enjoy microdermabrasion! With pure mild magnesium oxide, pomegranate, and soothing, calming organic oils. Reviva's microdermabrasion pomegranate scrub helps retexturize skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles or rough skin by featuring gentle magnesium oxide crystals and pomegranate instead of abrasive aluminum oxide. And to further avoid irritation as it exfoliates and removes impurities, our Micro Scrub induces a complex of organic oils. Cleanses in depth but gentle enough to use on even sensitive or acne skin."

How could this be that they could create a highly effective scrub that retextures the skin, reduces that appearance of fine lines, thoroughly and deeply cleanses the skin without irritation, and is gentle enough for sensitive or acne prone skin types? I'm not sure how they did it, but they did!

My first observation was that the tiny scrubbing particles felt uniform in shape, and clearly without jagged sharp and scratchy bits that often damage the surface of the skin while removing dead skin. This effective cleanser is densely packed with little magical scrubbing particles that actually feel good against the skin. I applied a small amount to my damp face, and per their instructions I gently massaged it on my face for about 2-3 minutes. When I say gently, I do mean gently-- using a light hand is all that is necessary. After massaging it for the requisite amount of time, I rinsed it off with water (they recommend cool water, but I opted to use tepid water instead), and was stunned by just how soft and supple my skin was. It gently and effectively resurfaced my skin by removing all of the dead skin, and it simultaneously softened and moisturized my skin-- rather than stripping it as many scrubs tend to do. I also noted that it did an extraordinary job of removing debris and gunk from clogged pores- which is always a huge plus for me.  I have used many many scrubs over the years, but none have left my skin moisturized, soft and supple. Indeed, this product is so effective that it feels as though I have a received a professional facial each time that I use it- rather than one that took 2-3 minutes at home. My combination skin can be quite sensitive, but this scrub didn't irritate my skin in the least bit.
Overall assessment: THIS IS AN EXTRAORDINARY PRODUCT! This is a remarkably effective scrub that is peerless in its ability to remove dead skin while simultaneously nourishing he skin without irritation. This is one of the very best scrubs that I have tried in more years than I can remember, and I can safely say that once I empty this jar that I will be purchasing another! The price point is remarkable- especially when you consider how concentrated the product is. I love the fact that Reviva Labs is Cruelty Free, and that this product is free of parabens! This earns an A+

$19.00 2 oz. jar (sale price) from Reviva Labs. PR sample sent for my consideration, but the views expressed are categorically my own.

  2. I love this and it never irritates. It sits in my "product bathroom" (which is the one my kids used to use) so that I can take advantage of using it. I'll use it tonight as a matter of fact!

  4. This certainly sounds really nice--and I know they say it's ok for acne-prone skin, but I can't help but still be wary. EVERYONE says that about their skincare products these days, and MOST of the ones that contain essential oils that I've tried have broken me out regardless :/ Still, this one sounds really, really nice--and it IS only $19....:D

    1. My guess is that this would be gentle enough not to bother your skin, but I know that you have had lots of trouble with essential oils breaking you out. While this scrub doesn't feel in the least bit oily, it does contain a whole host of oils-- and that could cause you some trouble for that reason. xx

    1. Hi beauty bar! Reviva Labs formulated this scrub for all skin types including sensitive. While I imagine that it would work for your dry skin individual results will vary. I have combination skin and it works brilliantly for me, but I also am a huge fan of scrubs. If you have great success with scrubs then you might really like this one. However, if you don't do well with scrubs (manual exfoliants)- then I would probably avoid this one because it is a manual exfoliant. If you have more specific questions I would urge you to contact Reviva Labs directly:

  6. Do you still feel as wowed about this product two years later or is there something comparable that you feel is better? If so, what and why? Thanks!

    1. Hi cpl100, I am still just as wowed by it, but recently finished my jar. I have far too many scrubs on hand at the moment to purchase another jar, but eventually will. The two scrubs that I have been using the most lately are: Arcona Brightening Gommage and Kate Somerville Exfolikate. Both are amazing! Exfolikate is a really powerful exfoliant that really dissolves and removes read skin cells with extraordinary precision, but the regular version is a little too strong and potent for sensitive skin (they have a gentle version as well). Arcona Brightening Gommage not only removes dead skin cells and leaves skin soft and smooth, but it also contains powerful ingredients that fade hyperpigmentation! I will be reviewing it before too long!

  7. Have you ever tried Sonya Drakar's Flash Facial? Wondering how these all compare to that. I will look forward to the review of the Arcona product.

    1. I have not tried the SD Flash Facial– s it amazing? So far I am thoroughly impressed by the Arcona Brightening Gommage!

  8. The first time I used the SD Flash Facial I felt like I had found new skin underneath. Even though I have sensitive skin and the product is not what I'd call 'gentle' I was able to use it. Had two girlfriends try it and they had the same results....new skin, soft as a newborn's bum.

    1. I wouldn't recommend using it on a daily basis– this is a really effective exfoliator, and using this on a daily basis would be too much exfoliation. I only use it as needed, but usually not more than once a week.
