Le Métier de Beauté- Ken Downing's Lip & Nail Duo I'm Worn This Way vs. Bali- The Vampy Lip Showdown

Not terribly long ago when I bought the Le Métier de Beauté- Ken Downing Lip & Nail Duo I'm Worn This Way Limited Edition set from the Bordeaux Collection (Fall/Winter 2011), I lamented the fact that once this gorgeous vampy lipstick was gone that I wouldn't have the opportunity to replace it. While I tend to be more of a gloss girl than a lipstick girl- I do have a penchant for a vampy lip.
This set met my criteria perfectly right down to the gorgeous nail polish in Vintage Vine.
Then one day as I sat daydreaming- it occurred to me that Le Métier de Beauté actually had a fairly good dupe for the I'm Worn This Way lipstick already! That was when I pulled Bali out to test my theory.
Colour Core Moisture Stain Lipstick in Bali is an equally vampy shade, and it has the same sensational formula that is found in I'm Worn This Way. More importantly, it is part of the permanent collection making it far more accessible.
Bali meets all of the criteria for a long-lasting comfortable vampy lipstick that is unbelievably  gorgeous, and perfectly on trend! Click to enlarge photos.
While not identical, I'm Worn This Way and Bali are close enough in hue that you really won't need to mourn the fact that the former is no longer available. There is a touch more purple in I'm Worn This Way, whereas there is a touch more burgundy in Bali. However, once on the lips the differences become negligible. I thought that MAC Heart Hangover, from the Beth Ditto Collection, would be a closer dupe to I'm Worn This Way and Bali, however it pulls far more brown in comparison to the other two lipsticks.

Overall assessment: Bali is an extraordinary choice for those looking for a gorgeous vampy shade of the highest possible quality. For those of you who have been dying to find a close dupe for I'm Worn This Way- you need look no further.

Le Métier de Beauté Colour Core Moisture Stain Lipsticks are $32.00 0.13 oz.

  1. They do look very similar from your pics, I really am liking the colour but I know I'd feel the need to sheer it out ;) xx

    1. They are quite similar, Replica. They also do sheer out nicely- so you don't have to commit to an over the top vampy lip. I also find that a touch of it under a lip gloss works quite nicely as well. xx

  2. Thanks for this! I was bummed that I missed out on the vampy lip sets from last Fall, because I'm a dark lip ADDICT. I've been considering Bali, although I already have Kona, which is like its deep purple cousin, so I don't know if I can really justify both... Bali does look beautiful, though.

    1. You are so welcome, Kate! Did you see Marcia's comment? She thinks that she saw this set at NM in Troy Michigan on Saturday-- so there still may be a way to get one. It went to clearance on the NM website, and while they sold out-- I have to wonder if they are selling them for the same price in the store?

Kona is gorgeous-- so I can see why you might not want to get both, but if you could get this at the sale price it might be worth it!

  3. I could have sworn I saw the set at Neiman on Saturday. I was surprised since they were older but they may not have sold out. On Wednesday, the 19th, my review will have the number of the Neiman in Troy Michigan in case you start daydreaming again.

    1. You probably did see it. Up until recently the set was still available online at Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus. I wouldn't be at all surprised if there are still a few left. NM had the on clearance online foe a while as well. Can't wait for your review!!!! Is your review going to cause me to spend more on makeup??!!

  4. These are such gorgeous, vampy colors! I wish that polish was a gloss--it would be the perfect baby step for me to try out the rich, vampy color without going the lipstick route

    1. They really are, Becca!! OMG if that polish was a gloss-- that would be spectacular!!! I think that I know the perfect vampy LMdB lip gloss for you. You should take a look at Uma Paro-- I was planning on posting my review and swatches next week. Gaia did an extraordinary review of it:

  6. Lovely! I love vampy nails but have never tried vampy lips. I'm always afraid to try vampy lips on me, maybe I should :p

    1. Hi memoiselle! I agree with you- vampy nails are spectacular!! I love vampy lips as well, but I think that if you find a vampy color that you like that is capable of being sheered out- you can gradually build up the color over time to stay within your comfort zone. Blotting really helps a lot. You can also get a vampy lipgloss to start. LMdB Uma Paro is a great place to start. I'm going to review it next week and will post swatches. The Non-Blonde has an exquisite review!! ;D
