Rouge Bunny Rouge Umber Firefinch Eye Shadow Review & Swatches

Such an act of violence against such a beautiful eyeshadow! No, it did not arrive in this condition. Instead the second time that I pulled it out of the package to gaze at it lovingly my finger slipped and I watched in horror as my fingernail embedded itself into the virgin pan! Quelle horreur! If you heard screaming at that very moment-- then you can be assured that it was me! Enough dwelling on that which cannot be changed- I suppose that I can be thankful that I didn't drop it on the floor and watch it become smashed to smithereens.
Moving on. Umber Firefinch is one of the lovely new eyeshadow colors that Rouge Bunny Rouge recently launched. Rouge Bunny Rouge describes it as an "iridescent dark umber chocolate," but I would add that it is a very cool tauped brown that is devoid of all warmth. Modesty Brown rightly suggests that the name "conjures a warm brown......but Umber Firefinch is a cool, ash toned brown." For me, this is perfect for my cool-toned skin, however for those with warmer skin you may find that this is too cool, and that the actual color seems to defy Rouge Bunny Rouge's description (or at the very least, one's perception of what the description means). As with all Rouge Bunny Rouge eye shadows, Umber Firefinch is creamy and silky smooth with fantastic pigmentation, stellar color saturation, and absolutely no fall-out. In short, it is as extraordinary as all of the Rouge Bunny Rouge eye shadows that we love!

I decided not to buy the RBR Keepers because I planned on popping Umber Firefinch into my MAC 15 pan palette. If you have the same thing in mind- be aware that you will have to add a magnet to the back of the eye shadow pan as you would if you had depotted a MAC eye shadow. My plan is to eventually have this handy palette filled with RBR shadows!

Ingredients: Talc, Mica, Dimethicone, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Nylon-12, Zinc Stearate, C26-28 Alkyl Dimethicone, Zeolite, Sorbic Acid, Methylparaben, Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, Zea Mays Starch, Propylparaben, Tetrasodium Edta, Butylparaben, Peg-6 Isostearate, Isononyl Isononanoate, Silica, Bht, Pca Dimethicone, Cetearyl Ethylhexanoate, Octyldodecanol, Hesperetin Laurate, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Butylene Glycol. (+/-): CI 77891, CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499, CI 77007, CI 75470, CI 77742, CI 77510, CI 77288, CI 77289, CI 19140, CI 42090, CI 77266

Overall Assessment: Umber Firefinch is a gorgeous cool-toned brown that is sure not to disappoint, unless of course you are hoping for it to be a warm chocolate brown. Used sparingly it makes for a nice darkened taupey brown lid color, but it is also a lovely crease and liner color as well. I love it, and have no doubt that I will hit the pan on this beauty.

    1. It is a dangerous rabbit hole, Brooke! I am afraid to calculate what I have spent-- and sadly the more I get, the more I want. It is such a great line! YOu will lose your mind if you take the plunge!

  2. I'm not supposed to be looking at browns/ taupes, but that one is just so lovely...

    1. It really is a gorgeous one, Kate!! Certainly being able to buy it in the refill pan has made it more affordable and justifiable! Have a lovely weekend!

  3. Thanks for this post! Like you, I haven't purchased the Keeper (it was out of stock when I tried to purchase) so my RBR shadows are just sitting pretty in the cardboard folder. My MAC 15 pan palette isn't full so I'm following your lead :) although I would like to get the Keeper eventually for travel.

    1. You are so welcome! I just didn't want to spend so much on the Keeper, but I do agree that it is perfect for travel. I'm just so pleased that it fit into the MAC palette!

  5. So very pretty, I need to sort myself out and get this shade, I hope they add all the shadows to the pan line up as I do prefer having palettes :) x

    1. I'm actually rather surprised that you didn't have this one in your stash! It's perfect for your cool fair coloring! I agree, I prefer having palettes as well-- it's so much easier to work with, and one is far more likely to use more of one's stash if it is conveniently located in the same place!

  6. Thank you so much for the kind mention. I'm really glad you like it too! It's a lovely colour and definitely not what you would expect from the description.

    1. My pleasure, Jane! It was, after all, your fantastic post that made me add this to my last RBR order!! I really do love it, and I didn't buy it initially because I thought that it was a typical warm leaning chocolate brown. Once I saw your review, after I was done scratching my head about RBR's description and your swatch- I knew that it had to be mine. They are usually quite accurate in their descriptions, but not on this one! xx

  7. How convenient that they are the same size! Fits in the palette quite nicely, though it looks ever so slightly lonely in the far corner. :)

It's a lovely colour! And such a shame when that happens with the fingernail. I've done it with blushes and lipsticks too and always shriek though I'm not a natural shrieker. LOL

    1. I agree- it was so lucky that it fit, and it does rather lonely all alone with that tribe of MAC eyeshadows!

It is simply gorgeous-- such a pleasant surprise!! As Jane aptly pointed out in her review-- the actual color has little to do with RBR's description of it! I know, isn't it sad how I destroyed that corner?! I still hate looking at what I did!! I shrieked as well, and like you- I am not a natural shrieker!! How did your Shakespeare paper go??

  8. Oh, I would have been cussing up a blue streak if my nail would have made a divet in a shadow like that. I don't think any beauty lover could fault you on that. And what a beautiful color it is.

    1. Trust me when I say I was cussing like a drunken sailor when I saw my nail plunging in-- in slow mo! I'm pretty sure I was heard a few counties over! LOL!It really is a stunningly gorgeous shade!!

  9. I've done the same thing with cosmetics so I sympathize.
I'm sorry I didn't buy this shade when I did my RBR order. I'm not happy with the Olive one (too much like Sunday Riley which I like better) and Umber would have been a better shade for me.

    1. It's an awful feeling-- especially doing it before you have even touched it- let alone swatched it!! I think that you would really love this color. Have have neither the RBR Olive shade, nor SR Leprechaun-- but I have played with and swatched Leprechaun and it seems to be a more complex and unique shade.

  10. It's not at all what I'd expect from the description (or from the word 'umber' which suggests more warmth to me) but I love the colour from your pictures. Commiserations on the mishap!

    1. I agree- their description really does mislead. This is , no doubt, why Jane was able to get hers in a swap so early after the release of the new shades and keepers. I would think that this would be a great shade for you, Grace! I would love to see your review! I will tell you, I will not be so careless the next time I remove one of the RBR refill pans from the packaging!
