Rouge Bunny Rouge Sea of Illumination Highlighting Liquid- Sea of Tranquility Review & Swatches

Rouge Bunny Rouge consistently has the highest quality products of all of the makeup lines that I use- as I have said repeatedly, I have yet to find a mediocre product. Seas of Illumination Highlighting Liquid is one of my most recent purchases, and I must say that it does not disappoint. In fact, it delights! I chose Sea of Tranquility because it has the "palest milky opalescence, with super fine pink, white and gold pearls." According to Rouge Bunny Rouge, it creates a luminous effect that "enlivens tired looking skin and all skin tones." On my cool-toned skin it most definitely enlivens my coloring while remaining a cooler color. I have difficulty with highlighters that pull too warm- as they tend to wash out my cool coloring- so this one is perfect.

The magical tale continues: At sunset in the Enchanted Garden, you can fleetingly glimpse the mermaids dancing in the gently lapping waves of the Grand Moon Seas.  Evening mists rise and tenderly caress them, lingering languorously on their bodies to gift their skin with uncommon youth and beauty.
We were inspired by this scene to bring you this dream-in-a-bottle, so that you can have your very own transformation. The moisturising surge of liquid pearls will dance whispers on your skin till dawn. Be as playful as the magical being that you are… you’ll still look as sublimely refined and urbanely elegant as the Moon itself. The tiny reflective particles will illuminate you anywhere you choose, with a sinfully quivering effect to quietly showcase your beauty. Bring fine-spun silver thrills by night or by day - to eyes, brows, temples, shoulders… No one can eclipse you, Moon Mermaid.

According to Rouge Bunny Rouge, "This multipurpose water-based fluid blends easily with moisturiser, or with foundation, to customise the look - to yours alone. Create an inside-out illumination effect and blend it to a thin, refined wash of pearls. Light fragrance of Cucumber with a touch of Peach Flower will add to your application pleasure. A quartet of shades with Melissa extract to soothe, and Vitamin E to guard against ageing. The highlighting liquid can be used alone or over moisturiser and as a highlighter, over foundation, too."
The top picture is taken outdoors while the other two are indoors.

This is a fantastic highlighting liquid, period. It feels silky smooth to the touch, applies like a dream, and never leaves you looking as though a glitter-bomb exploded all over your face. You are left with a very refined luminous sheen rather than obvious sparkles or glitter.  I have been using it daily since I received it several weeks ago, and I really love it! It is a very versatile highlighter, and here is how I have been using it:

1) For an all-over ethereal glow,  I add about 1/2 a pump to my hand and mix it with my primer, foundation or tinted moisturizer. I then apply it directly to my face either with my fingers or with a foundation brush. This gives you a gorgeous and magical all-over glow.

2) I apply it directly to parts of my face and body that I want to highlight: Cheek bones, brow bones, over the top of my upper lip (starting at the Cupid's bow and working outward), collar bones, and chest. This creates a lovely luminous glow that is simply stunning.

I must also add that it smells heavenly- I can't quite identify the smell, but it is so pleasant. To me it smells like a treatment product rather than a heavily perfumed finishing product, but once applied to the skin the scent immediately fades.

  1. As soon as I read the title of today's post I should have clicked it off. I have been wanting this for so long. You make it sound even better than RBR does.

Be sure you read my blog on Wednesday by the way.

    1. Hi Marcia! I really love this Highlighter-- it's pretty luscious! It's probably one of my favorite new things right now. Get a sample on your next Zuneta or Beautyhabit order to see if you like it as much as I do. I started out with a sample, and I knew that I wanted after my first use!

I always check your blog-- so definitely will on Wednesday-- I'm so excited to see what special post you will be doing! How's your mom? I hope that she is doing well!! xoLola

    1. Hey Sara! Love your blog- BTW! It's another fantastic product from Rouge Bunny Rouge! I just can't believe that their quality is consistently excellent! I keep expecting that there will be something that they make that is just okay, but so far everything that i have tried is amazing. I totally agree- the packaging is beautiful! xx, Lola

  3. I'm glad you like this. It's really pretty, but I guess I prefer powder highlighter ... unless I forgo anything else on my face. Then this makes a lovely finish. I bought this one and the white one (forget the name) and feel a bit regretful that I was so hasty. ;)

    1. It is really pretty. This one is so perfect for your coloring. I would try it again- on those days that you don't put anything else on-- I think that the ethereal glow differs from things like Play it Proper because it is more dewy. A small pump in my foundation renders such great results, and I still add a touch of PIP. I wish that you weren't regretful of your purchase!

  4. This is gorgeous. *sigh*
I've been trying not to read your RBR posts. I'm so tempted!
I like the idea of mixing this with foundation or moisturizer.
The thing is, I have to remind myself that I don't wear foundation and I wear sunscreen in place of moisturizer... so I shouldn't really get this.
    It *is* lovely.

    1. Hi BooBooNinja!

I know-- this is one spectacularly beautiful highlighter. I really like mixing it with my foundation and my tinted moisturizers. I'm not quite sure how well it would mix with a sunscreen though (I suppose it really depends on the consistency of the sunscreen). It is also lovely just applied directly to the skin. If you decide to place an order for anything through Zuneta or Beautyhabit you can request a sample of this to see if you like it. That's what I did, and I liked it so much that I ended up ordering a bottle!
      :-)

    2. Darn it. I've been thinking about this illuminator again.
Do you think this shade would be a tad cool for me?
(I'm the same as you -- NC20/25 -- but warmer.)

    3. Oh BooBoo- it's such a delightful illuminator at that! Well, it's definitely a cool-leaning shade, but not overly so. It is refined and subtle enough that it ostensibly imparts a gorgeous glow without too much pigmentation. I think that it wouldn't scream too cool on your warmer skin. Plus if you are mixing it into your foundation or TM is really is so much more diffused, and just gives the skin a luminous glow. If you place an order for anything from Zuneta or Beautyhabit you should request samples of each of the shades to see which you prefer before committing to a bottle-- then you can add it to your Christmas list along with Sel!!. I don't think that you could go wrong with any of them. I'm so happy with mine!

    4. I don't wear foundation (does a dusting of loose powder count?) or TM, but I would layer it on top of my sunscreen and below a powder blush.
Speaking of which, does this product play well with powder blush? If not, I'd apply the loose powder before the illuminator.

p.s. I haven't taken photos of the mirror yet as I want to wait until I've painted the walls and found appropriate hardware to hang the mirror horizontally. I'm worried that I've overhyped it. I hope I haven't given you the impression that my find is of Broyhill Brasilia-calibre! It's a simple piece, with clean lines and excellent quality. That's all. :)

    5. I knew that and had forgotten. It should be just fine with a dusting of loose powder on top. I have put both loose powder as well as powder blush on top without incident. I would just let the illuminator set down before adding powder to it. I have found that it plays well with everything so far! It's a pretty glorious product.

Funny, I was just going to remind you about your mirror-- take your time! I'm quite sure that you haven't over-hyped it. I suspect it is one of those rare really great Craigslist scores!! Excellent quality and clean lines is right up my alley!!!!!!!
