Rouge Bunny Rouge Matte Eye Shadows: A Real Game Changer in the Evolution of Mattes! Swatches & Review

So here are a few of the things that were in those pretty little boxes in my Rouge Bunny Rouge Teaser post!

At this point in the game, I think that it is safe to say that you are well aware of my obsession with Rouge Bunny Rouge. I have yet to come across a product of theirs that was a disappointment, and that is quite a rarity. Even the best lines produce a dud now and again, but so far this has not been the case in my journey down the RBR rabbit hole. If you decide to take the plunge- don't be surprised if you see him on the way down!

I think that you will probably agree with me that matte shadows are extremely hard to do right- they are often chalky, patchy, apply unevenly, and quite often feel uncomfortable and drying on the eyelids. In fact, I have found very few brands whose mattes even come close to working for me. Rouge Bunny Rouge Long-Lasting Matte Eye Shadows- When Birds Are Singing is a real paradigm shift in the world of matte shadows. These are silky smooth eye shadows that are creamy dreamy, and luxuriously soft as well as ultra finely milled. Even people who shy away from matte eye shadows will be among the converted because these mattes are really that good. They apply evenly, are buildable, and come in a gorgeous array of must-have neutrals. I have four of them, but trust me when I tell you that the remaining shades are on my "must-have" list. Skeptics will be among the converted after a single swatch- and I am not exaggerating.
Blackpepper Jay is described as a "semi-opaque smoky black brown."
Grey Go-Away Lourie is described as a "semi-opaque smoky slate grey."
Chesntut-Napped Apalis is described as a "semi-opaque chestnut puree with a hint of cocoa dust."
Sweet Dust Seriema is described as a "semi-opaque cool dusty mauve taupe."
All four of the mattes that I purchased are very wearable shades, and I find Rouge Bunny Rouge's descriptions of the colors to be spot on. All of the matte shades are quite subtle, sensible, refined, and office appropriate. They are also wonderful for a more natural look- which I like a great deal. It is my hope that they expand the color range in this particular formula because shadows this great should come in a rainbow of shades, not just more muted ones!

I tend to favor simple looks for myself- namely a wash of color on the lid and a winged liner, and all of these shades work quite well for just that. I tend to use Blackpepper Jay as an eye liner, and Grey Go-Away Lourie, Chestnut-Napped Apalis, and Sweet Dust Seriema for a wash of color. However the versatility of these shadows suggests that they would also be excellent crease and outer-v colors as well.

For excellent reviews of Bashful Flamingo and Sweet Dust Seriema see Visionary Beauty and Everyday Beauty, and for a lovely review of Sweet Dust Seriema see Perilously Pale- you won't be disappointed.

Overall assessment: These mattes have by far exceeded all of my expectations, period! They are my absolute Holy Grail matte eye shadows. I honestly cannot imagine how anyone will be able to top this formula. They are expensive, but worth every last cent.

    1. Hi mafi! They are gorgeous and the texture is just heavenly! I wish they were less expensive as well! Zuneta does run 20% off sales periodically, and these aren't limited edition-- so you could always wait for a good sale! I keep expecting to find a mediocre or bad product, but everything that I have tried from RBR is of exceptional quality!

  2. You are so bad for me! Now that Zuneta has those palettes I've been thinking of getting some. Sweet Dust Seriema is definitely on my list. Since I didn't like me in Solstice Halycon will I like this one?

    1. I know-- me too. I wanted to see swatches of the new colors first before taking the plunge. Do you happen to know if they are planning one of their fantastic 20% off sales? That would certainly ease the blow a bit. I wonder how long it will be before Beauty Habit gets the palettes. I ordered Solstice back in November or so, but they were backordered-- they placed my order anyway, but I eventually switched it for something else. So I still don't have Solstice to make the comparison between it and Sweet Dust. Zuzu, Perilously Pale or Replica have both and could give you a far better assessment. I can tell you that Sweet Dust Seriema is absolutely my favorite of the three lighter matte shades that I picked up. It is a lovely cool mauve taupe- it is really beautiful. What was it that you didn't like about Solstice Halcyon on you? I wonder if I will feel the same.

    3. Of course your blog is already something! It will start to take on a life of its own soon- you will see. There really are so many inspiring blogs out there! Unfortunately when GFC shut down all of the non-blogger blogs my box became empty. I trued to get them to respond to reinstate it because I have a blogger blog, but finally gave up. So no, you aren't missing a step- I just don't have GFC anymore :-(

You can subscribe via email, hellocotton, bloglovin, or various RSS feeds. See my right column for the options

    5. Me too- I was really bummed out not to be able to put it back up on my blog. I follow a lot of blogs through GFC, and it would have been convenient to continue having it here as well!

  4. I have starred and re-marked this blog post on my Google Reader multiple times. I love these eyeshadows, and the sad thing is I've never tried them or seen them in person. I want them all. I wish they were available in the refill pans (for the $ savings). I agree RBR should come out with more colours. They're probably developing them right now. :)

    1. Hey BooBoo Ninja,
These mattes are simply sublime!! I pulled them out and showed them to a good friend of mine who is a seasoned professional makeup artist- after having told her that NOBODY does matte eye shadows like Rouge Bunny Rouge because they are so buttery soft. The second she stuck her finger in the pan of the first shadow she looked at me and said "now this is how matte shadows should be!"

I definitely think that RBR should have all of their shadows available in refill pans-- the $ savings would be fantastic!!
