Revlon Colorstay 16 Hour Eye Shadows illustrate perfectly this new trend in drugstore brands stepping up their game. Drugstore brands had virtually been off of my radar for years- that is until Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters took the beauty world by storm. That was my reawakening. Because I had a renewed interest in Revlon I was compelled to try out some of their new ColorStay Eye Shadow Quads.
Siren, like Addictive (reviewed here), is a beautiful quad with good pigmentation. There are no chalky or gritty shades, and they are uniformly buttery soft and finely milled. Siren is a definite cool blue-based quad- so if you are looking for any warmth in your eye shadows it won't be found here!
- The top left shadow is a cool silvery gray that has a fine shimmer with no fall-out
- The top right shadow is a lovely cool purple with a touch of gray and plum. It likewise has a fine shimmer with no fall-out.
- The bottom left shadow is TAUPE with a touch of gray and purple. It also has a very fine shimmer--more of a sheen than glitter. It was also fall-out free.
- The bottom right shadow a dark dark grayish brown that is nearly black. It is matte, but soft and easy to work with, and absolutely free of fall-out.
All of the photos were taken outside in direct light.
The pigmentation is uniformly fantastic in this quad, and the colors are really lovely. I am not quite sure why Revlon made the pans vary in size. I am probably not alone in wishing that the taupe was bigger and the silver was smaller, but I imagine that they had their reasons. With or without primer these shadows lasted all day without creasing or fading on my non-oily eyelids. I never wore this quad for a full 16 hours- so I can neither validate, nor refute their claim that it will last for that length of time.
Overall assessment: This is a really nice quad for the price. It is one that I will continue to reach for. While the colors are not terribly unique, they are quite lovely. This is a good neutral quad for those looking for cool leaning and nicely coordinated colors.
0.16 oz./4.8 g $7.49-$7.79 at CVS, Rite Aid or Walgreens. Check out
their prices at Target as well. They are often on sale- so you can snap
them up for even less.
This palette looks wonderful, and it's within my budget. Yay! I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to wait until you finish reviewing all seven of your quads before going to the drugstore. :)
ReplyDeleteI've yet to purchase my first taupe. I hope that these colours will look as lovely on me as they do on you. I have a feeling that I'm darker and warmer than you. (How would you describe your skin tone?)
Hi BooBooNinja!
DeleteI really like this quad, and it's definitely budget friendly. I will try to review the other 5 quads soon. I have a pile of Rouge Bunny Rouge stuff to photograph and review as well, but I will try to sprinkle in the Revlon as well!
Wow, still no taupe in your stash!! This might be a nice budget friendly way to start. I have pale olive skin that leans cool (I can get dark, but I try to stay out of the sun and I pile on the sunscreen). I can get away with lots of different foundations-- right now I have been using MAKE UP FOR EVER Face & Body #20, but could go lighter and even pinker if I wanted. I am also wearing NARS Pure Radiant Moisturizer in Alaska (the second to lightest). MAC NC20-25 is where I am usually placed, but I don't use any of their foundations. I don't wear full coverage foundations- mostly tinted moisturizers or light formulas like MUFE F&B because I want to show my skin rather than hide it. I hope that exhaustive explanation gives you a good idea!! Obviously the swatches on the underside of my arm are considerably more fair than my face is and the top of my arm, but you can probably see that I lean cool. :-)
Yup, no taupe yet. :)
DeleteOh gosh, please review the RBR stuff first. Revlon can definitely sit on the sidelines for RBR beauty.
I could not agree more!! I was going to rush the Revlon reviews for you, but since you would prefer the RBR-- I'm definitely going to leave the last 5 Revlon quads for a little while. I have to get my Sunday Riley lipstick posts up- then I will focus on RBR! I have yet to be disappointed by anything from RBR!
DeleteOh Lola, you are a sweetheart for thinking of me for the Revlon review. :) I'm over the moon that ZuZu introduced us (via her blog) *and* both of you welcomed my Nosy Parker button nose into the fold. :)
DeleteI would love to try RBR but, as it's currently out of my price range, I can only experience it through reviews and photos. I'm glad that you have love for RBR too.
Of course I was thinking about you with respect to the Revlon reviews- you said that you wanted to wait to buy until after I reviewed the other 5 quads!! I'm thrilled that Zuzu introduced us as well, and we both love having Nosy Parker in the fold!
DeleteRBR is exquisite, and once it is within reach for you- you will be really happy! You should really check to see what Zuzu will be offering at her blog sale though!!
Taupey gloriousness! I must see if we get this in the UK
ReplyDeleteIt is a yummy taupe! That said, I wouldn't pay above a drugstore brand price if it is hard to locate in the UK. It's a huge improvement over what one could find in the drugstore not long ago, but it is still a drugstore brand. Paying over face value would be like someone in the US paying RBR prices to get their hands on a Sleek Palette! :-)
DeleteThose look like my types of shades, I don't tend to do well with drugstore makeup but I'll make sure to check these out :)
ReplyDeleteHi Replica,
DeleteThey are definitely your type of shades, but they cannot hold a candle our beloved RBR! As I said to The Driveller Kate-- I wouldn't pay above drugstore prices for it if it's hard to find in the UK, and it is by no means comparable in quality to the high-end makeup that we live for. It is, however, a really solid palette for a drugstore brand. There is definitely no question that Revlon has stepped up their game since their Lip Butters! :-) You have me lemming for Bashful Flamingo-- I wish that I had included it in my last Zuneta order!!
Hi Lola,
DeleteI'm pretty sure we do have these over here, I think Revlon might be on a 3 for 2 at the moment as well, that would just be rude of me not to partake ;)
Bashful Flamingo is lovely for a really natural look, mind you we might all be placing more orders soon as their palettes are soon to come out so you can always add BF onto that :)
Hi Replica,
DeleteNot just rude-- at that price it might not be legal to pass on the purchase! :-)
I'm not entirely sure why I didn't pick it up before-- it really is the type of color that I like to wear when I want a very minimalist natural look. I had thought that we were going to have to wait a very long time for Zuneta to replenish the out-of-stock items, and get in the palettes after that shipment was stolen. Did you see Perilously Pale's post?? Zuneta will have them in stock on Friday, April 27th!!

They are trying to make us all go broke!
A good thing about about putting makeup is that you can express your personality just by choosing the color you are into and I think there are so many colors of make up to choose from.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it is a wonderful way to express oneself!
