Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Exhibition

Yesterday on my way to my sister's house for dinner, I thought that I would make a quick trip to the Sephora near her house to see if they had any Ellis Faas at that location (thanks, Zuzu!), but unfortunately the Sephora clerk with whom I spoke was misinformed and there was no Faas at that location (sorry, Zuzu!). So while my mission had been thwarted I decided to take a look at the new MAKE UP FOR EVER Rouge Artist Natural Lipsticks- which are GORGEOUS (thanks, Marcia!), and some Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow Duos. The line at Sephora was ridiculously long and for some reason was moving quite slowly so I decided I would look and swatch and buy later (probably a good thing since I am trying to be less impulsive- see this post).

I had very little time, so my attention zeroed in on the Exhibition Hourglass Duo. I have one Hourglass single shadow from ages ago, and the texture is phenomenal. It is buttery soft, beautifully pigmented, and simply stunning. All of this can likewise be said about the Exhibition Duo. Exhibition is so finely milled and buttery soft that you will wonder why you didn't buy it years ago. The pigmentation is astounding, and the quality really is as good as it gets. The colors are spectacular. The left shadow is described as a mauve shimmer and the right is described as an eggplant shimmer on the Sephora website, and as a a deep purple on the Barneys website. I would suggest that left shadow is a mauvish taupe- definitely cool leaning, and ridiculously gorgeous and pigmented. The shadow on the right is somewhere in between an eggplant and a deep purple, and it is simply sublime. I swatched them both, and had planned on taking a picture the moment that I got to my sister's house, but between my sleeve and my niece's bear hug there was little left to photograph (sorry). Rest assured, I am buying this gorgeous duo and will do a full review with MANY swatches to accompany my effusive gush.

What I do not understand is why Hourglass Eye Shadows, and Hourglass in general gets so little love in our community of beauty bloggers! The quality is exceptional, and the colors are gloriously pigmented. The packaging is gorgeous- it comes in a bronze compact with a mirrored lid that swivels 360°- it is both innovative and convenient!

Additionally, the shadows are free of Sulfates, Synthetic Dyes and Phthalates. Hourglass does not test on animals.

Initial assessment: I NEED THIS DUO, and so do you if you love mauvish taupe and the most regal purples. This is a definite must-have for cool toned beauties, and if you are fair and cool toned- you have just found eye shadow nirvana.

  1. I love Hourglass eyeshadows and this duo is my favourite! I just wish they'd put out some quads -- then I'd really be in trouble ;)

    1. Hi The Driveller Kate! Aren't they amazing?! This duo is so sumptuous and gorgeous I can barely contain my excitement. I wish that I didn't have to work today because I really want to run to Sephora and get it! I agree with you- quads would get me into trouble as well!

  2. I just bought two Hourglass duos with my $25 off $50 card at Dermstore. I haven't used them yet but I can't wait to do so. I was in love with my palettes from Hourglass when they came out though they didn't have quite the shimmer/shine that these seem to have.

Now you need to get back to buy this and swatch it!!

p.s. Are you in California? I'm probably going to the IMATS show in June. Maybe we could meet!

    1. What a great deal!!! Which colors did you get? Drooling waiting to see your swatches and reviews!!

I will definitely be making a trip to Sephora soon-- that is on my list, as is looking more closely at the MUFE Rouge Artist Natural Lipsticks, and all of their Ellis Faas.

I do live in California-- LA actually so IMATS in June is a distinct possibility if I am in town. I was thinking exactly the same thing about us meeting! :-)

    1. I just checked out your wonderful review! I was thinking the same thing - that this would be fantastic with RBR's Delicate Hummingbird! Truthfully I think I would most often use the darker color as a liner! Your review definitely bolsters my resolve to pick up this gorgeous duo-- thank you!

  4. Bummer about EF. That's a beautiful duo. I have only tried Hourglass lipstick, and it was way too deep and pigmented on me, even though I adored looking at the colors.

    1. I know, I was definitely disappointed that there was no EF when I arrived!! This duo is gorgeous!!! You should take a look at it next time you are at Sephora-- I think these colors would be beautiful on you! There lipsticks are beautiful, but I don't have any of them.

  6. I bought Suede and Dune plus somewhere in my stash I have Prism. I think I'm way overdue for a review. If only pictures would take themselves so that I don't have to! I love writing, I hate photographing.

    1. Suede and Dune are both gorgeous- I swatched them both as well! I may cave and get more than one on my next Sephora trip! I know what you mean- the photographing, cropping, and watermarking process takes so much time!! I'm dying to see your reviews of them!

  7. nice! I like these kind of shades. This reminds me of the Misty Soft Chanel duo I used to have. It's very similar. Too bad Hourglass doesn't get more attention!

    1. Me too!! I still haven't picked it up, but it swatched so beautifully. The light side is almost like a lavender taupe and the other side is like a blackened purple. They are gorgeous and so buttery soft and smooth! Wow- great catch-- it's REALLY close to Misty Soft. Is that another shade that made it's way into your mom's stash? I really don't get why hourglass doesn't get more attention-- they make such high quality products!

    2. Hourglasses & Bare Minerals shadows are ones I still want to try! Have yo tried out the Bare Minerals ones yet? I know we talked about it before :)

Yes, my mom has Misty Soft! She just finished it last month. She really liked it.

I got a sample of their new primer - No. 28. I am going to try it out tomorrow. It smells really nice.

    3. I still haven't tried the new Bare Minerals pressed powders-- I had intended to after our last discussion about them, but still haven't. I have touched and swatched a few of them when I walked by the display, but I didn't linger at all because I was headed somewhere else. THey were soft and beautifully pigmented, but I have no idea what they are like on the eyes.

I figured your mom ended up with Misty Soft-- it's so nice that she actually used the entire thing.

Let me know what you think of that primer!

    4. I am going to pass on the primer. It is nice but not $62 nice! That seems a little high for a primer. I still need to try the one from Sunday Riley. I have better hopes for that one. The Hourglass one did feel nice - not heavy and smells nice but I did not see much of a difference.

    5. A $62.00 primer has the THRILL you, and at that price point it should be able to wash your dishes too! I agree that is a bit high for a primer. I really love the Sunday Riley tinted primer-- it feels and looks amazing-- plus it basically doubles as a tinted moisturizer. I like the one from Hourglass as well, but I haven't used it long enough to decided whether I really really like it. You should run into Barneys on your lunch break and apply the SR primer to your face and wear it the rest of the day and that will help you decide if that one is for you.

  9. I picked up a duo in Dune and though I haven't worn it yet when swatched it just melted nicely into my skin. The colors are so rich and dense. I look foward to collecting more duos from this awesome line.

    1. Hi Shelley, Dune is so gorgeous!!! I still haven't picked up this duo, but I have a fantastic single of theirs from years and years ago that is gorgeous and so buttery soft. Rich and dense is a nice way of describing their shadows. The quality really is outstanding.

    2. Lola....run don't walk!!! You must check out this particular shade. I wore it today and I'm so happy with it. It really translates well on my skintone which is a soft caramel (I'm 'golden' in Bobbi Brown foundation). Thank you so much for replying back by the way. You are one of my fave bloggers just for that very reason. Your reporting of all the products you discuss are detailed and concise....love,love,love!!!

    3. Oh no, really that good in a must-have way?! OMG, your description sounds absolutely divine!! So this color just melts into your skin and naturally accentuates your coloring!! It really doesn't get any better than that!!!!!! You are so welcome, but there is no need to thank me-- I blog because it is fun for me. I mean where else can we obsess about makeup to people who are equally as obsessed with it!! Pretty expensive affliction that we have!! I'm actually really trying to to hit the pan on a few eye shadows before buying more-- it's isn't anything like an official e/s buying ban, but I just need to prove to myself that I can actually get through an entire eye shadow before forgetting that I even have it!! My recent LMdB lippie binge was nothing short of demented :-) Add to that the fact that Barneys bag event is next month-- which is always fun- and expensive when you know if you just spend a little bit more that you will get this insanely fabulous step up gift from your favorite brands! Thank you so much for saying such lovely things about my blog-- it really means so much to me!! xxoo
