The original version was released in the Fall of 2010 and was a limited edition blush in the European baked formula. I realize that many people prefer the softer US versions (read: not baked), but I have always had a fondness for Chanel's baked blushes despite the fact that they are harder than their US counterparts. The "new" Pink Explosion, on the other hand, while made in France, is of the US non-baked variety. This should be great news to those who prefer that formula, but apparently along with a change in the formula there is a bit of a difference in the color as well.
Amy from Café Makeup not only is the first to have swatches, but this brilliant blogger has even provided Pink Explosion fanatics with a side by side comparison between the "old" and the "new" Pink Explosions! Be sure to take a look at her feature-- it is fantastic!
Both of the above pictures are the "old" Pink Explosion from my stash. Click here to see it compared to other mid-toned cool pink blushes.
Which version do you prefer? Will you be buying the new Pink Explosion? I will- how could I resist?! I also want the new shade Tumulte (#70)! There has been a noticeable absence of clean clear cool toned pinks in Chanel's Joues Contraste line-up- so I am thrilled that this has now been remedied. Now if Chanel would only re-release Narcisse (#44) in the US- then I would be happy beyond words!
It is now available!
$43.00 at Chanel and where Chanel is sold.
That is interesting news. I have the limited edition one from Fall 2010, and it's actually smaller by gram than the other JC blushes. I don't know if I will pick the new one up. I recently went through a clear, bright-pink, glowy blush phase and lord knows I don't need another.
ReplyDeleteI might change my mind, though. Thanks for the good news!
It's odd that it's smaller by gram than the other JC blushes. I think I will take my old Pink Explosion to the counter and swatch them side by side, and Tumulte as well. If it is close enough on my skin then there probably is little need to get another (particularly since I have an untouched backup). One can actually have too much of a good thing, and beauty blogging shouldn't serve as an excuse to buy far more than one person needs!
DeleteI tried out Pink Explosion and Tumulte. Tumulte appeared darker than I thought it would be. But when the SA but both on my cheeks I honestly could not tell the difference. A couple hrs past and looked again, and still could not tell much difference. Both appeared light pink on my cheeks. I didn't buy any...yet :)
ReplyDeleteThat's very interesting. What about in the pan- do they look very similar in person as well? I haven't made the time to go look at them because I have been so busy. I'm surprised that they looked so similar on you. That's kind of a bummer. I really wish that they had brought Narcisse back-- that shade has had such a cult following. I'm going to bring my Pink Explosion (old version) and my Euro and US versions of Narcisse to the counter to compare to the new Pink Explosion and Tumulte. If they are similar enough I will pass. I don't want to buy them just for the sake of buying them unless they are different enough to justify the purchase (even though I have a Nordstrom $20.00 note burning a hole in my wallet!).
DeleteI tried both at the counter last night and was a little surprised because I could not tell the difference when the SA put it on my cheeks. A couple hrs passed and I looked again and could still not tell a difference. They both appeared light pink on my cheeks. I did not purchase any..yet. I did get a sample of the Vitalumiere Aqua compact, so excited to try that. Also got a sample of the new Laura Mercier oil free supreme foundation too!
ReplyDeleteThat's just so strange! I wonder if it is an issue of how your body chemistry and skin tone alters the product or if it is just an issue of the pigmentation. Cafe Makeup's pictures and swatches make Tumulte appear brighter, crisper and cooler in the pan compared to the new Pink Explosion-- but very light in the swatch. I assume that neither seems to have made huge impression on you otherwise you would have likely grabbed one or both. Or are you just sleeping on it? I'm a huge sucker for pink blushes, but I'm also trying not to buy things impulsively-- particularly when I have a big stash filled with similar things. We'll see....
DeleteI hope that you like your foundation samples!
opps, sorry for double posting!
DeleteIn the pan they looked very different. Pink Explosion did not appear as bright and Tumulte looked darker than in the pictures I saw.
I like pink blushes too but I don't want to buy impulsively either. So I think for now I will pass on these. I agree in that if I liked it enough I would have picked one up that night.
I guess it just goes to show that the ultimate test is going and swatching the colors, and trying them on. I still haven't gone to look at them, but I look forward to seeing whether I "need" any of them. I'm tired of being impulsive and coming home with things that end up being dupes or near dupes for other things in my stash!! It is hard to exert this type of self-control, but I think that it makes you appreciate what you do end up getting even more when the decision to get it was a well-reasoned one!
