Sephora's 2012 Birthday Gift: Fresh Sugar Kisses Mini Lip Duo Review

I always look forward to my yearly birthday gift from Sephora, and was quite pleasantly surprised by the one that I just received! This Fresh Sugar Kisses Mini Lip Duo is super cute and quite nice. It includes one Mini Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15 and one Mini Sugar Rosé Tinted Lip Treatment SPF 15. Each mini contains 2.2g (0.08 oz) of product versus the full sized product that weighs in at 4.3g (0.15oz.), but these two minis together have a touch more product between them than you get in one regular size tube (which costs $22.50)- so this is quite a nice gift.

Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15  is a very hydrating lip treatment that really nourishes and protects even the driest lips, and it feels so smooth, velvety and moisturizing. My lips have been really chapped lately because we have been having really weird weather in LA- one day it's hot, the next it's cold, and then it rains. All of these sudden changes in temperature have really wreaked havoc of my lips- so getting this birthday gift from Sephora couldn't have been more timely. I have been using the Sugar Lip Treatment for the last couple of days and my lips are feeling and looking much better! I really like this a lot and think that I will likely by the full size tube once I have finished this one. Once my lips are a bit more healed I will start using the Sugar Rosé Tinted Lip Treatment (I tend to avoid using pigmented lip products on chapped lips), but I suspect that I will really like it as well.

Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15 blends reparative oils and waxes with real sugar, a natural humectant, for delectable and dependable moisture. Sweet and tart black currant oil, rich in plumping essential fatty acids, cushions the lips while antioxidant grapeseed polyphenols and vitamins A, C, and E provide protection from wrinkle-causing free radicals. It also provides essential, year-round protection from damaging UV rays. This lip-loving essential has a bright, citrus scent and is free of petroleum, mineral oil, and lanolin.

What you won't find: Parabens, Sulfates, Synthetic Dyes, Petrochemicals, Phthalates, GMOs, Triclosan.

Features:
1) Sugar which prevents moisture loss.
2) A blend of nourishing oils, including meadowfoam seed, blackcurrant oil, avocado, and jojoba that deeply moisturize dry areas.
3) Antioxidant grape seed polyphenols, and vitamins A, C & E that protect, smooth, and soften the lips.
4) SPF 15 UVA/UVB which provides protection from avobenzone and octinoxate.

  1. Finally something worhwhile! I was disappointed with last years b-day gift. I wasn't crazy about the smell of the body gel/wash from Philosophy. I hope this year they step it up too for the 500 point perks...most of the time I pass on them. I am happy this year when they have the VIB sale they will have brands that I actually want to get items from. I am really curious to try out Edward Bess.

If you like these, try out the Honey flavor! Happy Birthday :)

    1. Thank you, Nicolle!

I know, this is a much better gift than the Philosophy body gel/wash! I'm really loving it so far- I will definitely check out the Honey flavored one next time I go to Sephora. I TOTALLY agree about the 500 point perk- I keep passing on them too. Frankly some of the 100 point perks have been more interesting than the 500 point perks (though I keep passing on all of those too). I guess I will just keep stockpiling my points until something good comes along!

I was thinking exactly the same thing about this years VIB sale, and Edward Bess was one of the first things that came to mind for me as well. I have swatched his makeup at Neiman Marcus, but wanted to wait until the VIB sale before actually buying. It's my hope that by then they will have EB in the physical store locations, rather than just online0- hat way we can really play with all of the products before buying. I called their 800 number to try to find out if it's true that the line will be launching in the stores in March (as I had read somewhere), but they had no idea (which seems to happen a lot). So I will watch and wait. I did really like both of the eye palettes, but at %$60.00 each I would definitely want to wait for the VIB sale!

    2. Did you see the new one from NARS? It's a 500 point gift. I thought about it just because I am out of eye shadow primer but not sure I would use the highlighter and definitely would not use the bronzer! So I guess I should pass.

Did you like anything from Edward Bess? I want to try one of the highlighters, I can't remember the name right now. The Neiman Marcus where I live was clueless about it. I asked if it would ever be at that location and the SA said "who?"....nevermind.

    3. Yes, Sephora sent me an email about it-- I thought that it was just a GWP for VIB's when they spend $35.00 or more, not a 500 point gift. I'm going to go back and find that email and read the fine print. I'm in the same boat that you are-- I would never use the bronzer (but my sister might), and I'm not sure that I would use the highlighter, but I would use the primer. I think that it's only worth it of you were already planning on making a purchase. I just found the email and it just says free with a $35.00 purchase-- and gives the promo code: VIBNARS.

There are three Edward Bess things that I was looking at: Island Escape Eyeshadow Trio (taupe inspired), Soft Smoke Eyeshadow Trio (grey inspired), and Soft Orchid Blush Impériale (baby pink). These are the things that I paid the most attention when I swatched EB at Neiman Marcus the other day, but I haven't spent enough time playing with his line to know if I love it (espacially since I haven't tried any of it on my face).

Those highlighters are gorgeous looking! That is so funny that the SA at Neiman's was so clueless!! It's sort of their job to know what's going on in their industry, and Edward Bess has taken the beauty world by storm, and H E L L O it's been at Neiman's for a while now (even if it's not in her store!!). When you read or write beauty blogs- it is often the case that you are aware of launches, products, lines etc. before SA-- which is kind of crazy. I have that happen to me a lot as well.

    4. Oh opps, I knew it was too good to be true! They should start doing that though for the 500 point perk. I heard they might do a 1,000 point perk? It better be worth it!

Yea, I get frustrated with clueless SAs. And then they act like you don't know what you are talking about. Usually, I don't try to correct them. I just say "oh ok" and move on...they are a hopeless cause :) I wish I could do their jobs!

Regarding bronzers, I don't understand some of the guru's on YouTube that put so much on. It is like they keep layering their face with product after product. I must have been bored enough and curious though cause I saw one that wasn't an ugly brown and not orange. I bought it at Target last night and tried it today. I didn't overdo it but it must have changed color on me cause around noon my co-worker said "why are your cheeks so orange?" I looked in the mirror and it was muddy looking, not appealing at all! I wiped it off and powdered it. It's in the trash now :)

Have you tried Koh Gen Do?

    5. 1,000 point perk?! That could be amazing!! As we have discussed before- so many of the 500 point perks leave so much to be desired.

What's worse is when you actually know more about the core line than some of the less informed SAs. Don't get me wrong-- I love being taught about a line from well informed SAs, but the one's who aren't well informed about the lines they represent is so frustrating!

I know what you mean about packing on bronzers, and piling on makeup- I just never understood the motivation, or the end game aesthetic they were going for. OMG, your Target bronzder experience doesn't sound like it was much fun-- who wants to be asked why their cheeks are so orange?!

I have tried Koh Gen Do, but only the Cleansing Water and Cleansing Water Cloths, but I really like both a lot.

I have not tried their foundations, but have heard that they are quite good.
