Sunday Riley's Juno Transformative Lipid Serum- A Noteworthy Obsession

Sunday Riley makes some of the finest skincare products that I have ever used, and trust me- I have been a skincare junkie as far back as I can remember. Not only do her products produce visible results, but they are luxurious to use and amazing to the touch. Using her products is a sumptuous tactile experience- a true treat for the senses.

Juno Transformative Lipid Serum is an intoxicating "rare, dry oil that gives skin an obsession-worthy glow." According to Riley, this serum is a "A patent-pending blend of lightweight, fast absorbing oils extremely high in natural retinol, Vitamin C, Essential Amino Acids, Omega-3, 6, & 9, UV shields, and natural Anti-Inflammatory agents for luminous skin. Anti-Aging, anti-oxidant."

I apply Juno to my face morning and night after cleansing, and my skin has never looked better. It absorbs right into my face and neck and leaves my skin glowing rather than greasy. The scent is mild and soothing, but dissipates once the product soaks into the skin. I have combination skin (with an active t-zone) and initially had some trepidation about putting oil on my face, but fear not lads and lassies- this won't cause you to break out. Juno is formulated to be used by all skin types.

Key Ingredients:
1) Acai seed (quick absorption, rich in essential amino acids, vitamins, anthocyanins and phenols making the oil a very powerful anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory)
2) Argan (rich in Omega 6 and Omega 9, carotenes, squalene, and phenols; possesses a remarkable ability to nourish, moisturize and improve skin elasticity. )
3) Black Cumin seed (prized since ancient times, calms acne and eczema, helps with auto-immune issues)
4) Blackberry seed (great for damaged, blemished, or mature skin; high in Vitamin C, several types of Vitamin E, and lutein)
5) Blueberry seed (very light, quickly absorbed, beautiful aroma; high in Omega-3 fatty acids, significant free radical fighter, helps heal eczema & psoriasis)
6) Broccoli seed (contains 50% Erucic Acid (an Omega 9 oil): imparts luster similar to silicone and high in Retinol (Vitamin A)
7) Carrot seed (natural UV fighter; stimulates circulation, improves tone and elasticity; nourishes, tightens, and rejuvenates skin)
8) Chardonnay Grape seed (very light carrier oil, bursting with antioxidants; soaks in quickly)
9) Cranberry seed (broad spectrum UV protection, unique 1-1-1 balance of Omega-3, Omega-6, and Omega-9, high in retinol, great lipid barrier protection)
10) Marula (highly nutritious oil from Africa; absorbs quickly, heals skin tissue, reduces redness, reduces transepidermal water loss, increases the smoothness of skin)
11) Meadowfoam seed (penetrates the skin better than almost any other oil; absorbs quickly and leaves skin velvety soft)
12) Pomegranate seed (contains anti-cancer Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA); improves elasticity)
13) Red Raspberry seed (Cox-2 inhibitor, powerful free radical scavenger, high in retinol and Essential Fatty Acids; natural UV shield)

Full List of Ingredients: Acai seed oil, Argan oil, Black Cumin seed oil, Blackberry seed oil, Blueberry seed oil, Broccoli seed oil, Carrot seed oil, Chardonnay Grape seed oil, Cranberry seed oil, Marula oil, Meadowfoam seed oil, Pomegranate seed oil, and Red Raspberry seed oil.

Overall assessment: This may seem quite expensive, but this serum/ dry oil is very concentrated and will last you quite a while. I warm a few drops in my hands and then pat into my face and neck. It's pure love- this is one of my absolute must-have Holy Grail skincare products of all time!  Worth every penny!

  1. Hi Lola, great review! I'm new to Sunday Riley products and have combo/oily skin as well. For anti-aging treatments, which would you recommend - this Juno oil or the Skin Adrenaline?

    Thanks!!

    1. Hi judes, I'm so glad that you found the review helpful! I am absolutely in love with Sunday Riley products, and use all of her skincare and bodycare products (and have for a few years now). Juno Oil and Skin Adrenaline both have wonderful anti-aging properties, but the products themselves are too different to compare in an "either/or" sort of way. Juno is a dry oil that functions like a serum whereas Skin Adrenaline is an anti-aging concentrate/light moisturizer. Someone with dry skin wouldn't find Skin Adrenaline moisturizing enough on its own and would layer it under Bionic (a richer cream), but combo oily skin people like us find Skin Adrenaline to be a perfect daytime moisturizer. Think of Juno as serum applied before your daily and nightly moisturizer. Check out my link here that gives a breakdown of each of the Sunday Riley skin & bodycare products along with a link to my review for each individual product. At the bottom of the post you will see a detailed simple guide for an easy to follow AM/PM routine- which gives you a good idea of when each product is most often applied (of course people customize the routine to fit their particular needs, but I put this together as a basic guide that can easily be modified).

With all of that said, if I were going to buy one Sunday Riley product to introduce me to the line I would start out with Juno. It is a luxurious and super effective product that makes a huge difference- and one that you will see right away. If you contact Suzi (310) 276-4400 Ext. 5613 or Ext. 5598 (my friend and Sunday Riley Specialist extraordinaire) at the Beverly Hills Barneys she can help you with anything you need. Be sure to tell her that I sent you and she will give you some extra goodies. If you don't live anywhere near that location it doesn't matter because she can send you whatever you need.

Please ask me as many questions as you can think of-- I have lots of opinions on this fantastic line, and have discovered lots of fun tricks using these products. One of the most versatile products is actually Juno Oil-- I virtually add a pump of it to just about everything that i use-- to my foundation, to my sunscreen, to my eye cream at night- the list goes on and on.

  2. I'm not sure if you have tried the Rodin Olio Lusso face oil but if you have, how does Sunday Riley's Juno compare to that? What are your thoughts on both products? Thanks!

    1. Hi!

I have tried Rodin Olio Lusso samples-- and like it a lot- in fact so much so that I have actually been thinking about buying a bottle. I love the way that Olio Lusso feels and the smell gives me a sense of wellbeing, and it makes me happy when I apply it--I was worried that the JAsmine oil would break out my skin, but it didn't. I find that Olio Lusso soaks into my skin a quite a bit quicker than Juno does. Juno feels quite a bit heavier, and is slower to sink in.

I also have been using Sponge's Ladi Avokanto oil-- which is also superb and seems to soak in a bit quicker as well- perhaps even a little quicker than Olio Lusso. I just have to work a little bit harder to get Juno to sink in than the other two, but it is a lovely oil. All three work very well- so I think that it comes down to personal preference and budget, as well as price per ounce (if that is a concern).

Juno Oil: $125.00 for 1 oz.

Rodin Olio Lusso $150.00 1 oz.

Sponge Ladi Avokanto $60.00 for 1 oz. or $100.00 1.7 oz.

Clearly the biggest splurge is Olio Lusso, and the people who I know that use it religiously would never even consider switching to Juno or Ladi. They report that it makes them feel so happy, and that it is worth the splurge. They also feel as though their skin glows better and is better moisturized than with the other two oils. I have to confess that I thought that Olio Lusso was being over-hyped until I started using my sample. I used it one night and my skin was still glowing when I woke up. I'm super tempted to buy it. Of course I can't comment on longer term use with Olio Lusso as I can with Juno or Ladi Avokanto, but I definitely think it is a really one of the nicest oils that I have tried. I have used Juno for many years, and my recent love affair with all things Sponge really caused me to fall hard for Ladi Avokanto- which I have mostly been using at night lately. I hope that this helps!! What is your skin type, and what are you ultimately looking for in a face oil? Have you been using Olio Lusso and are looking to switch? If so, why?
