This product is unlike anything that I have tried. I should also preface this by saying that I am a tinted moisturizer kind of girl who has never bothered with primers-- at least until now.
Product type: Tinted Primer
Skin Type: All Skin Types. OIL FREE
Purpose: According to Sunday Riley to create a "Porcelain-smooth, sheer coverage that can be worn alone for a hint of color and even-toned radiance, or under foundation to extend wear."
Properties: Oxygenates the skin. It creates a light-reflecting, soft focus effect.
Key Points and Ingredients, according to the company:
1) Oil free, but oxygen rich- RejuvenOx oxygenates the skin, creating breathable "tunnels" through the advanced silicone primer. True oxygen therapy for the skin!
2) A true multi-purpose formula: Helps skin retain moisture without adding oil, diffuses imperfects, and created a smooth flawless finish, while imparting a beautiful "soft focus effect."
3) Sheer, lightweight, and completely breathable.
4) Molecularity links with foundation when layered, gluing them together for all day wear.
5) Peptides build collagen, while Sodium Hyaluronate keeps the primer fresh and skin porcelain all day long.

The box states that, "The sheer and lightweight Effortless Breathable Tinted Primer oxygenates and plumps your skin, making it a smooth, flawless surface for precise Foundation application. Multi-purpose formula with regenerating, anti-glycation Peptides and Sodium Hyaluronate leaves skin fine-textured, polished and youthful, with a touch of radiance. Can be worn under foundation to extend wear of makeup or alone for a sheer perfecting wash of color.
Application and use of the product: For the past two days I have applied Effortless Breathable Tinted Primer directly to my clean moisturized skin. I have applied 2-3 pumps to the back of my hand and then used my fingers to blend it into my face. Since I tend to prefer the light coverage afforded by a tinted moisturizer I thought that it would be a good idea to try this product alone before trying it in conjunction with a foundation.
The results: Nothing short of amazing! This product alone outperformed all of the tinted moisturizers that I have tried (and there have been many). This is now one of my Holy Grail products. My skin looks flawless and polished with a noteworthy healthy glow. If you like a lighter coverage foundation or tinted moisturizer- this stand alone product is the answer. I couldn't be happier with the results.

Click here for a breakdown on how to choose the right shade for all of Sunday Riley's finishing products (Foundation, primer, concealer, loose powder & pressed powder).
This is a swatch of the lightest shade on my hand. It sheers out beautifully and neither becomes cakey, nor does it settle into fine lines.
**UPDATE** 7/26/12 My most recent bottle of Breathable Tinted Primer had to be returned because it separated and coagulated no matter how much I would shake the bottle. The first pump would generally be clear silicone followed by a coagulated pigmented solution. I tried everything to get it to work, but it would separate on my skin and the ball up and literally fall off of my face. When placed under a foundation everything would separate and fall away as well. I'm not sure what happened to the formula in my bottle, but it's housed in an airtight container and I stored mine in a cool and dry cabinet that is never subject to fluctuations in the temperature.
Apparently there was a problem with the pumps on some of the primers- which may account for my problems with my last bottle- since sometimes when I pumped it nothing came out at all. I wonder if air was sucked into my bottle causing the contents to go wonky inside. However, I have since heard that the problem has been fixed- because a reader who very recently bought a bottle said that the SA opened it to make sure that the pump worked properly, and it did.
Overall assessment: I HIGHLY recommend this amazingly innovative and effective product.
This formula is available in 3 shades- I got the lightest one (Light)
I had this used on me today but the SA used medium, it should have been Light but I still liked it. It gave my skin a nice glow/dewy but not oily looking. I am so glad it is not full of silicone like 90% of primers....
ReplyDeleteHi Nicolle,
DeleteI'm so glad that you liked it. The Medium was definitely too dark for me too. I love the way my skin looks and feels when I use it as well-- I love the dewy glow. It is not Silicone free, but it certainly doesn't have nearly as much as most primers. It contains 3 different Dimethicones (they are 5th, 6th, 11th ingredients on the list), and Cyclomethicone which is the 19th ingredient. Of course I wish that it was completely Silicone free, but it's not. Maybe eventually Sunday Riley will do a silicone free primer.
what are the ingredients listed on the box? can you list the ingredients for the foundation as well. that will really help me decide if i want to give the primer and foundation a try. thanks! ^_^
ReplyDeleteHi blu3java,
DeleteI just posted the full list of ingredients above-- but here it is:
Ingredients: Water, Cyclopentasiloxane, Talc, Perfluorodecalin, Stearoxy Dimethicone, PEG-10, Dimethicone, Glycerin, Mica, Nylon 12, Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Bentonite, Steareth-20, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide 7, Sodium Hyaluronate, Cyclomethicone, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Butylene Glycol, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Hexylene Glycol

I could only find the box for the primer. I usually recycle the boxes after I remove the ingredients (to keep for my records), but I just can't find the foundation box anywhere. Sorry!
i meant the full ingredients list, not just the key ingredients. thanks!
ReplyDeleteI hope that this is helpful to you! Have a lovely weekend!
DeleteLola....this stuff is a dream. It retires my tinted moisturizer. My aunt came to visit me from NY and she had a goodie bag of full of surprises for me...this being one of them. I applied it over the Sunday Riley sunscreen (another goodie she picked up) and at first I was taken back by the super matte finish it gave me but after 10 minutes my skin was glowing. It gave me a nice even look and diffused the faint acne scars along my jawline. In the shade deep my skin doesn't look like an orange. My large pores are non-existent. I never even told my aunt that I was interested in SR products so I was shocked to see her pull out Good Genes and Juno along with the sunscreen and moisturizer. She told me that there is no need to apply foundation over the primer because it does such a great job by itself. And she is so right. With her generous gift I now have a nice back-up stash of Sunday Riley since I had already purchased a few items myself. This is truly an underrated brand...and this tinted primer is a dream.
ReplyDeleteWow, Shelley!! That was a SUPER generous gift from your aunt!! I mean seriously!! What an awesome aunt!
DeleteShe is a retired dermo and so her thing to do now is having family members sample the lastest skincare lines. She said if she was still practicing Sunday Riley would be carried in her office and laser treatments would be last resort.
DeleteThat's so cool, Shelley! I wish I had an aunt like that!!!!!!!!!!! :D
DeleteNot to mention the fact that you are so lucky to have a derma in the family who can take one look at a mole or sun spot and tell you to go have it removed!!
DeleteI am a cool toned light. Is this primer a neutral color or does it lean yellow? Thanks
ReplyDeleteI'm a cool toned light as well. I used this in Light and did find it to lean yellow on me. I would definitely recommend swatching it in person, if possible. That way you will really be able to determine whether it is a close enough match for you. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
DeleteThanks
DeleteYou are very welcome!
