RITUALS Fortune Oil Sweet Orange & Cedar Wood | Review

RITUALS Fortune Oil Sweet Orange & Cedar Wood from the Laughing Buddha Collection is a wonderfully moisturizing shower oil for the body that functions in precisely the same way as the many facial cleansing oils that have recently flooded the market.

You simply apply a small amount of Fortune Oil Sweet Orange & Cedar Wood to your skin and as soon as it has contact with water it emulsifies and turns from an oil consistency to a thin milky emulsion that effectively cleans the skin, and leaves it delectably soft smooth and moisturized. The scent is a warm amalgam of Sweet Orange & Cedar Wood, and it is neither too sweet, nor too woodsy. While the scent is lovely it does not linger since it is, for the most part, washed away. However, RITUALS does have a full range of products from the Laughing Buddha Collection that will allow you to luxuriate in the beautiful scent.

According to RITUALS,

In ancient China, 1100 years ago, the Laughing Buddha was a famous monk who, with his legendary smile, brought happiness wherever he went. For centuries, rubbing his belly has symbolised good luck and prosperity. Inspired by this tradition, our Laughing Buddha collection brings a touch of happiness to your everyday life.

The shower oil becomes a silky soft foam, leaving your skin beautifully soft. The natural ingredients Sweet Orange & Cedar produce a wonderfully warm fragrance. The shower oil helps you stay brown for longer. The oil hydrates your skin in the shower, so that you lose less pigment. You can thus enjoy your holiday tan for even longer.

How to use: Use Rinse the bath or shower well after use to avoid slipping. Rinse thoroughly if it comes into contact with the eyes.

It is really important to pay attention to their warning that one needs to rinse the shower or bathtub after use because the oil does leave an oily residue that could cause one to slip and fall.

Ingredients: Glycine Soja (Soy) Oil, Caprylic/ Capric Triglyceride, Laureth-4, Cocamide Dea, Mipa-Laureth Sulfate, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Oil, Parfum/ Fragrance, Juniperus Virginiana (Cedarwood) Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil, Aqua, Bht, Linalool, Limonene, Hexyl Cinnamal, Citronellol, Citric Acid, Ci 16035 (Red 40), Ci 42090 (Blue 1).
Overall Assessment: Such a wonderful cleansing oil that is such a special treat in the shower!

  2. are you applying the shower oil on dry skin or wet skin? i'm a little bit confused as facial cleansing oils need to be applied onto dry skin in order to cleanse properly. seems like this requirement would cause technical difficulties in the shower especially since it's getting colder?

    1. I tried it both ways and have to say that I prefer applying it to wet skin. You can use far less product that way. I just step out of the water stream when I apply it. Either way I found that it cleansed fine. Not is using less product more economical, but it also leaves less residue on the shower floor! :-)

  3. I like the sound of this for the winter; however, I think I will pass because of the cleaning issue.

    1. Hi cpl100, It's really lovely for the winter! I have found that I can really cut down of the shower cleaning if I apply the oil to wet skin in the shower, rather than to dry skin. I use far less that way which really cuts down on the clean-up, but it isn't altogether eliminated. :-)

  4. Have yet to try Ritual Shower oils but they sound intriguing! Am new to the slippery shower oil concept as have only used Eucerin and L'occitane which sound more like oil based cleansers in comparison. I love the smell of Molton Brown's Cedrus line- is cedar and Bulgarian lavender- but I only have the now discontinued bath soak and it is too drying for my itchy winter skin. Cedrus is marketed for relaxing/sleep and boy does it do the trick! If anyone out there is looking for great woodsy scented oils, this is another (though very costly) one to try.

    1. Hi Kirsten! I have yet to be disappointed by anything that I have tried from Rituals. I find that if I apply the cleansing oil to damp skin that I require far less product-- which in turn means that there is less of an oil slick on the shower floor. I have found that the my skin is left so soft, smooth, supple and moisturized that it is worth the extra trouble of having to clean the shower floor more often. Molton Brown makes some amazing scents, but I am not sure that I have smelled the Cedrus line. Thanks for the lovely description-- it sounds like a must-try for relaxing/sleeping! :-)
