American born artist Maria McElroy synthesized her love of blending colors and textures with her passion for scent. After receiving an MFA in painting from the San Francisco Art Institute in '86, Maria continued her studies in Australia and became a Certified Aromatherapist with Queensland Institute of Natural Science.
Seven years in Japan, studying Kodo, the ancient art of fragrance, Ikebana, Japanese flower arrangement Koto, Japanese harp, Shiatsu massage and Zen Buddhism solidified Maria's appreciation for Japanese culture and aesthetics. Romance also flourished back in New York where Maria met her Japanese born husband. Maria's seven-year journey, rich in Japanese history, romance and mystery, became the genesis of aroma M and the inspiration for the signature Geisha fragrance line. Aroma M is based in New York but is now known worldwide.
Maria's appreciation for Japanese culture and aesthetics in addition to her extraordinary experiences in the secretive world of the Kyoto Gion Geisha’s, have been the bases for aroma M’s Beauty products. Steeped in the ways of ancient Eastern traditions, and adhering to the Eastern mandate that beauty is a daily responsibility; at aroma M Beauty lies in the choice of unexpected, precious ingredients. The Gourmand combinations are a direct influence from Maria’s Kyoto born chef husband. Tuberose and Rosemary, Jasmine, and Frankincense essential oils are designed to smell beautiful and simultaneously enchant the mind, the soul, and the skin. Drawing on her Aromatherapy background, Maria has conjured elixirs that will satisfy all your beauty needs.
The aroma M Beauty line is held in a modern art nouveau glass bottle. Each bottle is adorned with Aroma M’s signature patterned Yuzen paper designs, handcrafted in Kyoto to complete this Japonesque design.
Maria makes Aroma M oils in small batches with all natural ingredients-- thereby assuring their freshness. She suggests that to maintain the best results they should be used within six months of purchase.
Aroma M Camellia Hair Oil is truly one of the most lovely treats that I have ever used on my hair. What one immediately notices is the intoxicatingly beautiful scent. It is a glorious floral that is so soothing and sensual that you will find yourself repeatedly smelling your tresses until the scent dissipates. I tend to either apply Aroma M Camellia Hair Oil to damp freshly washed hair or to dry hair, but both methods result in glossy shiny hair that is soft, silky, nourished, and hydrated. It always surprises me when a product is able to make my dry and curly hair lusciously shiny-- particularly a product that contains no synthetic ingredients. Generally it takes heavily silicone-laden products to give my hair a pronounced shine, but I am able to achieve the same beautiful results with Aroma M Camellia Hair Oil-- and without any chemicals. Additionally, I find this beautiful oil to be the perfect antidote to winter dry scalp. I simply massage it into my scalp at night, but for a really decadent treat I massage it into my scalp and brush it through my hair as an intensive overnight treatment-- the results are nothing short of miraculous. This is also a wonderful product for over-processed hair. If you color, flatiron, blow dry, curl, straighten, or perm your hair-- chances are that your hair needs extra nourishment, and probably shows signs of the damage caused by all of the processing. Aroma M Camellia Hair Oil will go the distance in helping your hair look and feel beautiful, and I enthusiastically recommend it to everyone who wants their hair to look and feel gorgeous and healthy.
The prevention and repair of damage is the strategy of this special composition for the maintenance and restoration of beautiful hair. A Geisha’s hair is one of her most prized and expressive beauties, and much thought and study is lavished on it. Aroma M Beauty has combined several ingredients to create an effective and beautifully fragrant Geisha Hair Oil. It contains organic Camellia, Golden Argan and Golden Jojoba Oils with the addition of two additional organic essential oils of Rosemary and Moroccan Tuberose. These precious and costly ingredients are sourced for the highest quality available today.
In Japan camellia oil is known as a symbol of wealth, virtue and happiness. Camellia oil is traditionally combed through to dress the hair during the elaborate styling processes, and so served to control the hair and also to supply protection, offering a variety of healing, nourishing and stimulating properties to purify the hair and scalp. The protection of the hair and skin in Japan is one of the most important parts of the beauty regimen.
Visitors to Japan immediately notice the plethora of hats worn by women to protect both skin and hair from the damage of the sun. Farm women wrap “tenugui” cloths around their heads for the same reason. In the summer time the Geisha during the day attempt to limit their exposure to the drying sun and wind, as they scamper to and from classes, and also cover their hair with Kyoto Chirimen silk cloths, and parasols. Aroma M Beauty Camellia Oil has been created with the traditional values of protection and repair from the damage to the hair and skin from the elements.
Ingredients: Organic Camellia Seed Oil, Organic Virgin Argan Oil, Organic Golden Jojoba Oil, Organic Rosemary Oil, Tuberose Oil.
Camellia Oil: The namesake of our Geisha Hair Oil, Camellia oil has been the traditional beneficial beauty treatment for hair in Japan used for centuries for its effective properties as a hair nourisher and conditioner. This tradition is responsible for the legendary beauty of the hairstyles of geishas and samurais of bygone times.
Camellia oil softens, nourishes and restores health and sheen to hair damaged by heat, colorants and perms. It prevents breakage and split ends, softens scalp and relives itchiness due to dryness, allergies or dandruff. It is believed that camellia oil will increase hair growth, making it fuller and healthier in just a few weeks, even restoring color to the first white hair. It transforms dry, brittle, neglected hair into gleaming strands. It provides vitamins and nutrients that can strengthen hair and to prevent damage and split ends. Camellia oil, also known as tea seed oil, contains a high amount of natural vitamin E, essential for healthy hair and quick hair growth.
Golden Argan Oil: Argan oil it is often called liquid gold by beauty experts. It gives new life to dry, tangled and flyaway hair. As a natural hydrator, it efficiently smoothes roughness. Natural antioxidants present in Argan oil strengthen hair by repairing the damaged cellular membrane. The natural Vitamin E present in Argan oil is useful to help restore the natural hair, renewing and repairing the damage caused by destructive agents such as high heat blow drying, coloring, and styling products that contain silicone and alcohol. Argan oil will lock moisture in and restore and increase luster and shine. Nourishing and rich unsaturated fatty acids like Omega 3 and Omega 9 in Argan oil are a direct source of essential nutritional components for hair pores and roots. These unsaturated fatty acids strengthen the protein bonding structures in hair thereby improving strength of hair and smoothing split ends.
Golden Jojoba Oil: Jojoba oil naturally promotes hair growth by stimulating the glands at the base of the hair follicles. Jojoba cleanses the scalp and aids in the healing of damaged cells. Jojoba is essential in sustaining the moisture needed to prevent dryness and breakage associated with hair loss. The extract of the seeds mimics the natural oil produced by sebaceous glands in the scalp.
Rosemary Essential Oil: Rosemary oil helps stimulates the hair follicles, which results in hair growth and longer and stronger hair. The Japanese believe that rosemary oil slows down premature hair loss and graying hair. It is an excellent tonic for balding. Rosemary essential oil is also beneficial for dry and flaky scalp. Regular massage with rosemary oil nourishes the scalp and removes dandruff.
Tuberose Essential Oil: This oil known as "Nardo oil" is from Morocco, heady blossoms of incredible beauty and intoxicating fragrance that comes to life after dark, nicknamed "Mistress of the Night."
Suggested use: Warm a dropper of oil into palms, apply from the end to the roots into wet or dry hair. For hair mask apply two droppers of oil into wet hair and leave in for 20 min. then shampoo out.
Overall assessment: Simply extraordinary! This is a truly amazing hair oil. A+!

DeleteThis sounds really great, I don't have luck with hair oils and just end up looking greasy, but this looks very promising. Thanks for the in-depth review :)

Hi Clare, It is really wonderful! If you don't have luck using hair oils on wet or dry hair following a cleansing-- then you can still reap the benefits by using it as a pre-shampoo treatment-- just massage it into your scalp and hair, leave it in for a while, and then wash your hair. You won't have any of the greasiness, but your hair will definitely benefit from the conditioning. You can also try using a tiny tiny amount and warming it between your hands and then apply it to the parts of your hair that may need a little extra moisture. :-)
DeleteThanks for your advice, you are always so helpful xx
DeleteMy pleasure, Clare! xo
