When Nordstrom contacted me and told me that they wanted to send me to SPA Nordstrom to experience their new Thalgo Polynesia Spa Ritual I was so excited that I responded to the email before I even finished reading their email! (Complimentary SPA services, Affiliate links).
I went to SPA Nordstrom at the Topanga Canyon Nordstrom in Canoga Park, California- located a few miles north of Los Angeles (it is one of only three SPA Nordstrom locations in California). You might think that it would be located on the first floor near the Cosmetics Department, but instead it is on the 3rd floor nestled in the corner between hosiery and an exit to the parking structure. This brilliant plan to locate it off the beaten path makes it convenient to jump in your car following all of your SPA treatments- particularly if all you want to do is go home rather than shop after your luxurious day of treatments.
Once you enter SPA Nordstrom, you are transported to the most relaxing and luxurious space imaginable, and I literally forgot that I was inside of Nordstrom in a large mall. It is really done right- just as one knows t expect from Nordstrom, but they really even outdid themselves in the way that they conceived this magical environment. The lighting is dim, the music is calming, and the people who run the SPA are nurturing, kind, knowledgeable, gracious, hospitable, and treat you as an honored guest in their home. I was even offered tea while I waited. Everything about my experience was spectacular.
The new Thalgo Polynesia Spa Ritual Treatment itself was one of the best spa treatments that I have had in many many years. Not only is it intensely relaxing, but it is also one of the most amazing sensory experiences that gives indescribable pleasure to anyone lucky enough to receive this sublime spa treatment.

Other information: Thalgo Polynesian Body Treatment: For an island experience, the new Thalgo Polynesian Body Treatment at Spa Nordstrom combines a body scrub made of sea salt, coconut shell and white sand from Bora Bora with a lomi-lomi massage, in which warm pouches of sand are used to work and relax muscles. It's all done while you rest on a warm massage bed topped with a water pillow for maximum tropical daydreams, and finished with a Polynesian sacred oil to leave you smelling like Fiji all day; $120.00 but only $85.00 during the Anniversary Sale for 60 minutes at Spa Nordstrom.
My experience: First I have to preface this by stating that if you live anywhere near Los Angeles, that I highly recommend that you make the effort to drive to the Topanga Canyon location in order to have Susan Yorkston, a brilliant and very gifted Massage Therapist, change your life with the combination of her unbelievable talent combined with the magic of the Thalgo Polynesia Spa Ritual. I cannot sufficiently underscore the fact that her expertise exceeds anything that I have ever experienced to date, and if there is any way that you can have her give you the Thalgo Polynesia Spa Ritual treatment- then you will understand why I am emphatic about her unparalleled skills, seriously.
After I was situated on the massage bed, Susan began by massaging the Exotic Island Body Scrub all over focusing on one region at a time. The blend of sea salt, coconut shell, and pure white sand from Bora Bora, thoroughly exfoliated my entire body while the sacred oil in the body scrub moisturized my skin. She also used the Mahana massage that incorporates the "rhythmic Lomi-Lomi technique, with warm sand pouches used to loosen muscles and nourish the skin." This experience was nothing short of miraculous. Furthermore, the constant scent of the gardenia tempered by the warm vanilla was so calming, soothing, and intoxicating that it encouraged me to breathe slowly and deeply- which ultimately forced me to relax further- thereby making it easier for Susan to treat each region of my body. The room also was permeated by this magical scent from the Thalgo Polynesia Room Fragrance (I really need this in my pet-filled life). Rather than simply scrubbing the skin, she massaged in long broad strokes as she simultaneously scrubbed the skin. This brilliant technique was deftly enhanced by Susan's skilled technique- rendering my muscles relaxed and my skin exfoliated.
When Susan was satisfied that my skin was thoroughly exfoliated she removed the remaining scrub, and wiped my skin to prepare me for the next treatment. The glorious scent lingered in the air and on my skin, and let me just say that the scent was so delectable that I couldn't stop commenting about my visceral reaction to it. The next step was a massage whereby Susan rubbed the Thalgo Massage Oil into my skin while continuing the rhythmic massage technique (sadly the Thalgo Massage Oil is a professional product not for sale to the public. Thalgo, if you are listening- please make this available for retail sale because it is truly magical and I would love to buy a bottle!).
After Susan was finished she applied the Thalgo Polynesia Sacred Oil to my arms and décolleté which nourishes the body while leaving a subtle, golden and iridescent finish, and of course that delightful scent of warm gardenia and vanilla. Susan left me to relax in the dimly lit room filled with soft soothing music and the aroma that continued to fill my senses. After I was ready to face the outside world, I got up and got dressed.
Susan Yorkston and Stefanie Gonzalez (the delightful and infinitely knowledgeable SPA Nordstrom Director) were waiting for me with warm smiles and kind words when I walked back into the waiting room after my treatment. They brought me a lovely cup of tea, which was the best tea that I have ever tasted, and we stood and chatted for quite a while. As I was preparing to leave, Stefanie gave me a bag with some samples of the lovely products sold at SPA Nordstrom, and said that nobody should ever leave the SPA without some little treats. To say that their customer service is extraordinary is an understatement of the highest order. However, one does not feel like a customer, but instead as a much revered friend invited into the home of a fantastic host. It was a truly magical day, and I am so taken by SPA Nordstrom that, as previously noted, I will dedicate a separate post to the SPA and all of the services and products that they offer. If you already love Nordstrom, as do I, then be prepared to love Nordstrom even more after you experience their SPA.
Thalgo Exotic Island Body Scrub $72.00 for 9.5 oz.
Smooth and nourish your skin with a gourmand scrub inspired by Polynesian traditions. Features an intoxicating vanilla and coconut scent. I would just add that the gardenia also comes through.

Overall assessment: There are not words to describe how magical this experience was for me. It soothed my body, calmed my soul, and awakened my senses. It was pure unmitigated magic. Now that I have been awakened to how extraordinary SPA Nordstrom is- you can rest assured that it will become one of my favorite places to go to escape my worldy cares and concerns.
