The Sunday Riley Crème Gloss Sheer Impact Lip Gloss formula offers a dewy glossy finish with and without shimmer, but not with any stickiness whatsoever (it's the antithesis of the sticky MAC
Lipglass formula). This lip gloss formula is remarkably hydrating, and
provides a fairly long-lasting wear time (provided that you aren't
rubbing your lips together because it feels so good, or eating and
drinking). It has the moisturizing properties of a lip balm, but with
the elegant finish of a high-end luxury lip gloss. The consistency is
much thinner than Chanel's Glossimers- which are thicker and stickier,
but lack the moisturizing properties that one finds in the Crème Gloss
Sheer Impact Lip Gloss formula. Click here to see my overview of this formula with links to more reviews.
This
super conditioning lip gloss was specifically formulated to be
non-tacky, long wearing, and conditioning while maintaining a high gloss
sheen. Sunday Riley wanted to create universally flattering colors that
ranged from semi-translucent, to shimmery, to intense pops of color.
They can be worn alone or layered over lipsticks and/or lip liners. I
have found that all of the shades tend to be far more sheer than opaque, and
the intensity of the color in the tube does not translate to the same
level of intensity on the lips. Therefore, if you are looking for a lip
gloss that is truly opaque you may be disappointed in the coverage. That said, you will not be disappointed with this phenomenal formula!
The color that I am reviewing today is Vacay,
which is described as a light sheer hot pink- which is an accurate
description though the emphasis on sheer cannot be overstated. In fact
the swatches above are built up to a very thick impasto in order for you
to see the pigmentation. However, if you run your eyes along the edges
of the swatches you will note that where the gloss is applied with
greater economy that it sheers out to the point of imparting little to
no color at all. Vacay also is free of sparkle- making it a lovely sheer gloss that gives the lips a gorgeous sheen without any shiny pearl particles. While I find all of the
Crème Gloss Sheer Impact Lip Glosses to be sheer, Vacay is among the
sheerest of them. This does not bother me in the least bit because I am
really madly in love this lip gloss formula, but I must reiterate that those seeking an opaque lip gloss will be disappointed with the coverage that Vacay provides.
Key ingredients that make this a magically moisturizing lip gloss are:
Sunflower Seed Oil
which provides high levels of hydration for the treatment (and
prevention) of chapped lips- it conditions and nourishes very
effectively.
Vitamin E also works wonders to nourish and condition even the driest of lips.
Stable Vitamin C
is used because it effectively increases collagen levels to plump up
the lips naturally. It also brightens skin, reduces melanin production
(which can lead to hyperpigmentation), and is a powerhouse vitamin for
its ability to repair the damaging effects of UV exposure.
Polybutene 100
is the magical ingredient that creates the intensely glossy shine
without any of the tackiness that one usually finds in high shine lip
glosses (making this ingredient one of the most coveted in Sunday
Riley's Crème Glosses).

Overall assessment: I am a huge fan of this formula. However people who prefer opaque lip glosses will be very disappointed because Vacay is a very sheer color and it imparts little to no color on my lips. It does offer a gorgeous shine, and for anyone who loves Chanel's Glaze Glossimer you might find this to be an excellent comparable product in terms of quality and price.Paraben Free & Cruelty Free

As I have said before: I love these lip glosses! They are the most comfortable and moisturizing lip glosses that I have ever worn. I can even wear these lip glosses when my lips are very chapped, and frankly they heal my lips faster than most of my lip balms do. I love the formula, I love that the shades tend to be more sheer, and I love how well it layers over other lip products. I also find that it is so emollient and moisturizing that it keeps my lips supple and soft even when I wear more drying lipstick formulas. I view Crème Gloss Sheer Impact Lip Color as a beautiful treatment product that doubles as a lip gloss. Merrady & Suzi aptly said that it is like Juno Oil for the lips, and that sums it up perfectly!

Great review. I have never heard of this brand. Seems like this lipgloss is something that I would like, because I like lipglosses that are not sticky.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Miss L!!
DeleteIt's a fairly new brand made in the US. It started out as a skincare line, and expanded to makeup in November 2011.
I love these lip glosses- the formula is fantastic, but as I said they are all very sheer- so people interested in opaque lip glosses will not be pleased about this aspect of them. They definitely are not at all sticky- they feel like a lovely moisturizing treatment product with a lovely shine! :D
Thanks for stopping by! xo L
I keep hearing about these glosses. Could you tell me where I could find them?
ReplyDeleteHi Jessica, Thanks you so much for stopping by!
DeleteRight now the glosses are available at Barneys New York (and online) and from the Dermstore online (the links are at the bottom of the post). THey are about to launch at SpaceNK-- which will really broaden distribution, and a part of the skincare line is currently available online through Sephora. I just checked the Sunday Riley website, and it hasn't been updated in a while- so the makeup line isn't currently available there.
Have a lovely day! Lola
What a great review, and the color/photos are glorious! But yea, I wish it would look just like that on my lips, instead of a sheer, barely-there pink. The color reminds me of essie Pink Glove Service, which is really just a clear with a pink tint.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Zu!!!! As always, that means a great deal coming from you. Yes, the color in the tube is GLORIOUS-- perfect for you, actually. However, that isn't even close to what you get on your lips. It's a great treatment type of glossy balm, but there is very very little color. It's exactly the same type of thing as Essie Pink Glove Service- except that the Essie Polish is more pigmented on than Vacay is. I still love it tremendously! The formula is fantastic!
DeleteCouldn't agree with you more about SR gloss- the formula really feels like a treatment for the lips. I also think it's great for applying over lipsticks when you wanna add some shine. Love it! Thanks for your reviews on it ;)
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with everything that you are saying! You are so welcome-- I rushed getting this review out with you specifically in mind, Naomi!! If my week goes as planned I will swatch the rest of the lip glosses for you and post them. :-)
DeleteThis looks lovely! I'm ignoring this brand in general for various personal reasons (nothing negative against it) and think I have an Asian brand gloss that is rather similar. The juiciness is so cheering. :)
ReplyDeleteIt is lovely, but since this shade basically imparts no color it is easily duped. The formula is fantastic! It feels a bit more like a lip treatment that happens to be juicy and shiny.
